Show Page The Dixie Sun 6 October 25, Sports Editor: Eric Benson Hang Time Rebs waltz on Walla Wall!!: Ont rowr Ionic Amerson's 289 yards lead victory Time has come for a playoff College football is in many ways the most exciting of sports, but it is characteried by a major, underlying flaw: No plavotfs, I he people who run college football must either have a conspiracy against the entire world or they really enjoy arguments in bars. The issue has always been controversial and it is likely to be more so this year. Last week's Associated Press poll showed nine teams with perfect records. Two of those team Auburn and Texas A&M - are ineligible for bowl games, because they're on NCAA probation. But they can still be voted the national champion by the Associated Press. (CNNUSA Today Coaches Poll does not recognize teams on probation.) As for the other seven teams, five could go undefeated. If that happened, maybe they could draw straws to see who gets the title. Playoffs would answer all of the questions and arguments people have about who the best team really is. The players favor it. Most coaches do, too. Listen to Florida coach Steve Spurrier: "It's the only way to determine the true No. 1." If a playoff system is obviously the answer to myopic fans' arguments everywhere, then why isn't it in place? The answer is because college football is like an Oliver Stone movie. It is a conspiracy manipulated by the good ol' boy network, in which bowl games plav a major role. This college football fanatic thinks that the network must be dissolved, in the best interest of the game and its tans. When the apocalvpse finally festers, then we u ill ha e true national champions in college football. post-seaso- n football-- watching -- nnu; Tf - t vk y iff" By ERIC BENSON THE DIXIE SUN The Dixie Rebels rebounded from a frustrating loss to Ricks last week in Rexburg with a 8 victory over a pesky Walla Walla ball club on Saturday night at Hansen Stadium.
