Alice Jacobs, KRDC staff member Radio DJs keep Dixie tuned in By Tiffany Prince Sun Live from under the Snack Bar, youre listening to KRDC 91.7 FM.. This is only one of many things listeners hear when they tune in to Dixie Colleges radio station. The radio station is located on the around floor of the Student Union Building. It serves Dixie College and the community by offering different kinds of music, public service announcements, call-i- n talk shows, and even a Spanish show. Weve really been making a lot of improvements, said Alice Jacobs, a KRDC staff member. Were getting more of a selection of music and more time slots filled. Jacobs is an announcer for two shows: Alicia del Esta, a Spanish show featuring Latin music and Spanish public service announcements, and The Lunch Bunch which she does with Lisa Perry. My service platform project for the Miss Utah pageant is working with and creating more understanding for the Hispanic community. The whole reason I got involved was for the Spanish show. I found out that I really loved and so I got my FCC (Federal Communications Commission) license, said Jacobs. Perry also hosts two shows. They are The Lunch Bunch with Jacobs on Tuesday afternoons, and hot blocks with Dave Rowley on Thursday nights. Both shows feature a variety of music from rock and guitar to hip hop and alternative. The Lunch Bunch also has one hour during which they take requests. I always wanted to be on the radio, and so I signed up for a radio class DJ-in- g and I got the basic Communications 179 training. The next quarter 1 signed up to be an actual DJ. Its been a dream, said Perry. According to Perry and Jacobs, I response to the station has been good. had two native speakers come into the station and I had a family call to tell me how great it was to hear a Spanish show, Jacobs said. In the next year, the DJs hope to improve the radio station by getting more music, more DJs, and publicizing more. Hopefully with the new president and the changes Dixie College is experiencing, well be able to have a really good program, Perry said.
