Show SWS OPENS TONIGHT page 3 REBELS WIN 23-2- 1! page 4 Welcome Week AssemMy a Sunesess Welcome Student Week at Dixie College got off to a fine start Monday, as 1200 plus (new and some returning students attended the orientation assembly in the college gymnasium. This gathering of Rebels, according to Dean of Students Rudy Iverson, who conducted the proceedings, went about as well as any of the eleven Ive conducted. The program featured an address by college president Alton L. brief Wade, iemarks and introduction of the four college deans by Dr. Peter Nyberg, for instructional services, and remarks studentbody by presi- dent Ed Rogers. Dr. Wade summarized his message to students in six points: first, manage your time and your money wisely ; second, turn yourself out, be concerned about other persons ; third, commit yourself to your educational goals and stick with them; fourth, search out friends, teachers or administrators when problems arise, and you need help; fifth, keep faith with the community. Always represent Dixie in a positive manner; sixth, perpetuate the spirit of Dixie, which he described using last years Dixie Week theme, as Deep in the heart, is Dixie. Following the mornings orientation, Iverson was very complimentary toward the Executive Council. He said, The kids of the council are handling things real well. Why theyre making plans for activities way into the school year, even before Ive been able to get school started. He closed by saying, Im certain this is going to be a good school year. According to chairman Marv Frandsen, Draculas Hotel, being built in the old U&I Sugar plant at First North and Main Street in St. George, is being planned for children of all ages from 1 to 101. It will open Friday October 23rd and close on Halloween, Oct. 31. Last year, Frandsen indicated, the Draculas Hotel had nearly 1500 people go through it during the week it was open. Frandsen said that special rates, other than the $2.50 regular price per person, will be in effect Planned Oct. 23 during the week. Monday October 26, will be family night; Tuesday, group discount; Wednesday, all junior high school student discount day; Thursday, all high school student discount day; and Friday, Oct. 30, all college students discount day. Members of the committee include chairman Frandsen, Diane Allred, Sydnee Blake, Teresa Christensen, Kathy Kent, Kelly Smith, Rita Spencer, Diane Syphus, Norm Black, Dave Musser, Studentbody President Ed Rogers, and Ralph Sudbury, with Rudy Iverson, Dean of Students, as advisor.
