Friday night they survived a big scare to down College of Eastern Utah 78-7- them behind by a count. only 10 minutes left in the game, they were still down by thirteen. The Rebels then changed from a zone defense to pressure all over the court, resulting in ten straight Rebel points. With two minutes left, they finally took the lead at and outlasted CEU 38-5- 1 With n Coach Allred described the CEU game as "one of the most peculiar games I've ever coached or seen". Dixie trailed through- out the game. Halftime found 71-7- In The Huddle . . Beauty and the beast. Strength versus finess. Power against speed. These phrases all illustrate the diametrically opposed forces of football-- a sport whose raw violence contrasts strangely with its minute precision. Never has this been more clearly illustrated than in Miami's 14-victory over Washington in Super Bowl VII. He Redskin tacklers, punished battering his way to 112 vital Miami yards. Control is the name of Miami's game, and the destructive power of Csonka enables them to eat up yards, and minutes, through possession football. the speed of Jake Third, Scott, Miami safety. Twice he cut off threats with key pass interceptions, nearly breaking one return for what would have been a record 105 yards. Mercury Morris also fits this category. Sweeps kept the Washington defense honest, the threat of his breakaway speed opening holes for Csonka inside. And finally, finess. A quarterback named Bob Griese. What an amazing performance. A broken ankle in the season's fifth game sidelined him for the year. Returning against the Settlers in the American Conference championship, he saw second half action. on controlling hte tempo of the game in an effort to holddown the Rebel offense. Dixie utilized changing defenses, trying to trap the ball and force mistakes. The Rebels were tired and sluggish, but still slowly pulled away for the win.
