At the beginning of this school year I am pleased to greet each student on campus. It is a pleasure to welcome back my many former friends and to extend my hand in friendship to each and every new student. of People attend institutions higher learning for various reasons. Some want to prepare for a noble profession, some to make more money, others to find a mate, several to participate in extra curricular activities, and still others come because their friends are attending. It is my sincere desire that the large majority of you have come to college to become educated. I believe most have come to Dixie for this reason. It is possible to accomplish one or more of the above points and still become truly educated, however, it does not necessarily follow that a college graduate is an educated person. It requires dedication, ambition, perserverance, and a worthy goal. One might suppose that high grades indicate a good education. This depends on the individual. If you intend on working for high grades as your prime objective may I caution you not to do so. It is generally agreed among educators that working for a fine education generally insures fine grades but the opposite it not often true. In view of the these facts may I encourage you to learn all you can in the class room and in extra curricular activities. Give of yourself if you would be loved and respected by your fellow students. I do hope you will be a better person when you leave our campus. In the weeks ahead you may be faced with various types of problems. If our counselor, Mr. Gerber, your division director, or I can assist you dont hesitate to call on us. Our time is yours if you need Sept 28, Class Yithdrawal Policy Announced College students who withdraw prior to the end of the third week of each academic quarter at Dixie College shall be given an incomplete failing grade for each of their classes as their instructors shall individually determine.
