Heater Explodes At Veteran's Housing The Veteran's Housing at 142 S. 300 West came alive on the night of October first, when a gasoline heater blew up with a roar in an apartment rented by three Dixie College students. Only two students, Ferril Barney and Ralph Riggs, both of Hatch, Utah, were in Apartment 7 when a leak in the gas line of the heater was ignited by the pilot light and shot a sheet of flame ceiling high. Stated he, Ferril looked up to see flames shooting out sideways as well as vertically and notified the housing director, who called the St. George fire department. The flames were extinguished by Theron Judd, another occupant of of the locally reknowned termite terrace, who ran to the back porch of the apartment and shut off the gas a few minutes before two fire engines arrived. Delta Psi Omega Views Dance Films For "Matchmaker" The initial offering of the Dixie theatre season will College 1959-6be Thornton Wilders farcial romp The Matchmaker according to Marion J. Bentley, director of the 0 production. An uproarious farce, The Matchmaker tells the story of a rich old merchant of Yonkers who decides to take a wife. To this end he employs a matchmaker a women who subsequently becomes involved with two of his menial clerks, assorted voung and lovely ladies, a headwaiter at an exclusive restaurant, and a wide variety of other characters who provide a series of hilarious complications. Casting for the show is now complete and rehearsals are under way. Cast in the title role, Miss Garna Olson will recreate the part of Dolly Ghallager Levi. Mr. Vander-gelder- , the merchant of Yonkers, will be played by Ned Ashby. The supporting cast includes Jeff Holland, Lida Brooks, Cecil Pendleton, Mike Beard, Beth Ann Bruhn, Pen-n- v Hafen, Tom Tisdale, Wanda Thompson, Judy Hansen. Bonnie Frei, Mike Malan, Don Roley, Paul Hunt, and Wilford Neilson. Staging and production elements are being supervised by the stagecraft class and student crews. The assistant director will be Mary Jo Widic. Costume designs for the production are being executed by Peg-gHawkins. Donna Parkinson of the college sewing department will supervise costume construction. Settings for the production are being executed under the direction of Tom Tisdale, newly appointed stage manager of the school. The officers of the committee are Doug Labrum of Roosevelt, Utah, vice president, and Linda Clingcr, Salt Lake City, Utah, secretary. 1 Goodwill Confab Slated at CSU The College of Southern Utah will act as host of the 12th annual Goodwill conference of all the Junior Colleges in Utah and several from Arizona, Colorado and Idaho October 8 and 9 on their campus. A delegation from Dixie Student Council, including Brent Crosby, Darlene Heaton, Marilyn Fawson, Larry Harmon, Sheila Baker, Priscilla Bleak and Ada Jane Truman, (Editor of the Yearbook,) will be accompanied by Dean Woodbury to Cedar City, for the conference. The conference, which has become an annual event, had its bewith Dixie Colginning in 1946-4lege acting as host at the time. It has increased from five beginning members to the present twelve.
