Our personality of the week is Gary Dinaric AlJensen, a pine from the hills of the Balkans echh. Anyway, Gary was born in Salt Lake City to launch right into the tale on Feb. 11, 1937, where he enjoyed himself immensely and gives no reason for moving later to Las Vegas, but it isnt true that they stoned him out of town. In Las Vegas, he attended high school, Las Vegas High School, of course, where he really balled, drag racing and including in his extracurricular activities attending huge beer busts. And now Gary, in his sophomore year, is a s'udent in high academic standing at Dixie, really. Hes been on the honor roll ever since hes been here, except once, and that was when he was on the high honor roll. What a consistent fellow. And on top of this, Gary swears tha' he a is not now and never has be-member of the communist party. How'ever. his activities have included Lambda Delta Sigma he promises to pay his dues soon and the speech festival this year, on polio, and last year too. In fact his team won a narional award. In addition Gary helped on the pole vault at the track meet last week. During the summers, he is a heavy equipment operator and mans such vehicles as Cats and Bulldozers (dozers to the initiated) After he leaves Dixie, he intends to go on to BYU to study a composite of business and education. And another bright spot in the future marriage in September to Janet Holley. Look out, McArthurs here we come! Eventually, Gary is going to be a business tycoon with a huge cattle ranch. Garys likes and dislikes: He likes Brent Crosby for president! He liked bringing in the big wise men dance while he was on the committe, and he disliked losing the beard contest after the effort he put in growing those whiskers. Kismet, he says, was great absolutely wonderful; and also the Sad Horse. The best movie hes ever seen was War and Peace and his favorite book was Lust for Life by that Stone fellow. His special friends are The Big Cook, six and some odd feet of Carlon Cooke, and Sleepy Sorenson, who refuses to get out of bed in the morning. Well, after all this time at Dixie, Gary graduates in seven weeks and before he goes to the Y. he wants everybody to know how he feels: I my cap and gown wearing a frown and with a tear in my eye I bid dear Dixie good-by(sob) cious personality of the week, when told why the interview. GARY JENSEN Dixie Receives Honors 2 At Invitational Contest Have you noticed all the little groups around campus that usually congregate to chew over the highlights of the day? Like as not their topic is Who will be the top dog on campus next year? The uplifting memoirs of Fifi have slowly left the group and have been replaced by the previous more thought provoking question. The fortcoming campaign gives a few of us nostalgia of last years Injons and Westerners. Those were the days of discouragement, fatigue, satisfaction, and comradeship, all mixed in to make one happy time. The gay rivalry will not be forgotten by some for quite a while. But all that is in the past and now we are looking forward to a new year with a flock of new' generals. All of them feeling scared, excited, and unsure of their qualifications. BuT these are the people we have put our trust in. They are going to make the difference in the Bigger and Better year and just another comyear. Carlon and his mittee gave us this slogan to think about and act by. Its good. I think it should be behind everything done by you w'ho are going to take over. With that idea Dixie will be Bigger and Better every year. When you vote this w'eek, and I hope all of you exercise this privilege, weigh the facts carefully and vote for that person who you sincerely believe would give the most and do the most for Dixie. Lets not make it merely a popularity contest, however I am inclined to think that it wont be. Lets elect those people who will make Dixie Bigger and Better. Then your next job is to be behind your new' leaders all the wray. Dixie is not going to be any better than you. as an individual, make it. They will truly need you support.
