Lambda Delta Sigma Officers for Next Year Recently selected by the members of the Lambda Delta Sigma organization at Dixie college were officers for the club in next years activities. Elected to head the mens and womens chapters were Dean Dutton of Hurricane and Jennie Lou Shaw of Salt Lake City, presidents Norman Fawson of St. George and Hope Lauritzen of Salt Lake City, Paul Christensen of Calicnte, Nev., and Yvonne Campbell of Hatch, secretaries; Brent Snow of St. George, and Margery Jennings of St. George, treasurer; and Cal Porter of Escalante and DOn Andrus of St. George, reporters. These officers were elected at a luncheon held this week at the institute. The new officers will begin their terms at the opening of the fall quarter of the 1957-5- 8 school year. Activities outlined by the group include an opening social, Halloween and Christmas parties, a Thanksgiving banquet. Sweethearts ball, Spring Bridal day, and swimming parties. A regular part of the years program will be the Sunday evening vice-presiden- ts; firesides sponsored semi-monthl- y Coed, Preferred Man Honored at College Ball Miss Shirley D. Sume of Midway and Mr. Packy Fenn of My ton were chosen this week as the coed of the year and the most preferred man at Dixie college. They were crowned Cinderella and Prince Charming at the Cinderella ball Friday, April 19, at 10:30 in the St. George recreation hall. Miss Sume, niece of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Tuotte, and daughter of Mrs. Lekla Sume, was recently selected as the coed of the month for May. She was chosen for her outstanding work in the school production,. Mr. Peepers, in the senior class competitive assembly, as chairman of Field day, as chairman of the aueen contest on Homecoming day, as director of the Dixiana assembly this year, her work on the junior prom last year, and as public relations secretary four quarters. Primarily she was chosen for her work as Associated Women's Students president in which she sponsored the coed of the month, coed of the year, and the Cinderella Holiday for a week instead of the usual girls dav. Miss Sume was elected coed of the year from among the other coeds of the past months bv the entire student body. Packy Fenn was elected as the most preferred man by the women students of Dixie college. Mr. Fenn starred this vear in Dixie college basketball. He also plays short-sto- n for the Dixie Rebels baseball team. Besides being very active in sports Packv has been an active member of the junior class by the organization. Officers of the mens club for the past year have been Stanley Cline Campbell. Clark Esplin, Noel, Reed Olsen and Grant Christian. Heading the womens chapter were Elva Carrol Musig, Sandra Emett, Ethel Pointer, Florence Church and Annette Snow. of Dixie college. As everyone knows, there were twelve candidates nominated this year for the primary election. From these twelve only two emerged to run in the final election. With only about 400 students to vote on 12 candidates, this meant that the two finalists represented a minority, not a majority of voters. As a result there were many gripes over the primary returns, and a third party was organized in protest.
