Bruhn, president of Dixie college, announced this week that the valedictorian from the graduating class will be Mr. Melvin Miles of St. George, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice J. Miles. Mr. Miles, a major in physical science, will speak for his class in the anntial commencement exercises which will be held in the St. George stake tabernacle on May 24. He is completing his second year of college with the highest grade point score in the graduating class. Besides winning top honors in hi.s studies, Mr. Miles starred two years on the Dixie Rebels basketball team and has pitched for the Dixie baseball team for two years. He is a member of the the Lettermens club, Lambda Delta Sigma, and Delta Psi Omega. Christian Receives Merit Award Mr. b. Glen Dixie Smith, registrar at college, awarded a certificate of merit to Mr. Raymond W. Ghristian in the student assembly hursday, April 25, 1957. Mr. Christian received the certificate of merit from the national merit scholarship corporation for outstanding score on the merit scholarship test he took last winter. An annual highlight of spring quarter activities of the campus social fraternity Spring Bridal day featured a display of three different sections including a personal shower, a linen shower, and a kitchen shower. General theme for the activity was April Showers. This year Spring Bridal day featured a bride, Miss Elva Carol Musig of St. George, and her bridesmaids Miss LaRue Campbell of Hatch, and Miss Dona Rae Gil- lespie of St. George. The affair was come and go with soft musical numbers 'being played in background while the welcoming committee greeted the guests at the door, and took them on a tour of the displays. The affair was sponsored by the girls chapter of the Lambda Delta Sigma, with Jennie Lou Shaw of Salt Lake as general chairman, with the officers of the girls chapter of Lambda Delta Sigma assisting, as her committee. From 5 p. m. to 8 p. m. all the girls and their mothers were invited to see the displays. Church, M-M- en M-M- - out-of-to- Final Plans Complete On Club Trip to Mexico The Spanish club will leave May for their annual Spanish trip to Mexico. They will travel to Phoenix Friday and then turn on to Nogales Saturday where they will see a bullfight. Their next stop will be Guaymuas where they will spend two nights and see many interesting places. The important events here on the trip schedule is seeing the historic port of entry of Mexico during the Civil war, a Mexican movie, going swimming in the ocean, deep sea fishing and shopping. Other things of interest they will see along the way are an old mission at Magdalina, the temple at Mesa, the museum, school and state capitol building. The club will take the college bus and will be accompanied by Mr. Walter Brooks, Spanish in3 Students structor. Educational Final Quarter Election Held by Dixiana Coeds The girls at the Dixiana recently held elections for officers for the spring quarter. The officers they elected are Daryiene Bentley, president; Nancy Rockwood, vice-preside- Naomi Meservy, secretary; Mary Ann Hunt, director of recreation, and Sally Lou Smith, reporter. The Dixiana float was the winning float in the parade. The girls riding on the float were Sandra Emett, Mary Ann Hunt, Karen Hunt, and Jenny Lou Shaw. The committee who were in charge of this float were Sally Lou Smith, chairman, with Arlene Ogden and Jackie Theobold. D-d- ay |
