Show Dixie College YAA Make Reflecting Dixie's Sun Year Plans, Hold Election By NORMAN FAWSON With five long weeks of toil behind us, "it finally came. (Not Marilyn!) It, the new bus, of course, is a little late for our wornout gridiron men, but just in Dixies time to accommodate "height in the person of basketball players. You poetical minded geniuses of the upper division have, I suppose, already begun racking jour minds for some masterful lines of rhyme. Remember, your attempt, I mean masterpiece, must be submitted to the National Poetry association, 3210 Selby avenue, Los Angeles 34, Calif., before November 5. I hope you seniors, juniors, sophs and frosh remembered to face Mr. Robins camera last week end for the yearbook. The cheer leaders and Pep club sure are fired up this year, it seems. They really help make the games more exciting. Oh, yes! Dont forget to remember to not forget the KDIX broadcasts from 5 til 7 p. m. at 560 on your radio dial. Dixie College Womens Athletic association i.s in full swing at the opening of another year under the direction of the following competent officers: Joyce Caudill, president; Cleone Wallis, Gale Judd, secretary; Petty Jane Rydman, intramural manager; Doris Graff, assistant intramural manager; Geniel reporter. Miss Connie Corbett is the faculty advisor. A big year is planned for the organization and they hope to be well supported. The following team captains have been chosen: Seniors, Ina Rcber; juniors, Doris Graff and Janice E. Ence, sophomores, Gale Judd and Mariam Ilafen; freshmen, Helen Miles and Karen Vawdrey. Class competition is being introduced this year, which, it is hoped, will bring more girls into vice-preside- Mc-Conki- e, W. A. A. At the years end, a trophy to be given to the winning class. Snow furniture Co. i; In Yake of Redmen Yin The Dixie Flyers dropped their first league game of the season last Friday in a crucial game played at Cedar. The Redmen returned Dixies kickoff 80 yards in the third quarter for the decisive touchdown. By winning this game, Cedar clinched at least a tie for the region G football crown. Dixies only hope is a victory over Milford, while Beaver beats Cedar. In the opening quarter Cedar threatened, driving to Dixies line where they were stopped. The Flyers seemed unable to get started and the quarter ended with neither team scoring. Cedar scored early in the second quarter on a series of drives to take a lead. With Lonny Ilafen, Lloyd Booth, and Doug Hunt picking up first downs on the ground, the Flyers drove to line. A fumble Cedars killed their hopes and the half ended with Cedar leading 6 to 0. In the third quarter the Flyers started clicking as Jolley recovered a fumble. In seven plays Booth, Hunt, and Bruce Stucki carried it to Cedars line. Lonny Hafen then scored on a line plunge to tie the game up at 6 to 6. Seconds later, Cedar returned our kickoff SO yards up the lead right sideline for a with one quarter remaining. In the final quarter. Cedar scored on a run to take a 6 lead. On the kickoff following, Bruce Stucki took a lateral and made an run, almost identical to that'made by the Redmen in the third quarter, but the referee rules that he stepped out of bounds on the line. The Flyers scored once in every quarter and twice in the second quarter while Kanab seldom threatened. Kanab kicked off to start the game and Dixie returned the ball to Kanabs 40 yard line with Lonny Hafen and Doug Hunt carrying the ball, The Flyers ad-to vanced 35 yards in nine plays Kanabs five yard line. Doug Hunt carried the ball over from there to score Dixies first touchdown. With Hunt carrying the ball again, Dixie made the extra point, making the score 0 when the first quarter ended. Dixie drove to Kanabs two yard line early in the second quarter, from where Doug Hunt scored his second touchdown on a line plunge. Booth passed to Jolley for the extra point, making it 14-Before the gun sounded ending the half, Lonny Hafen scored Dixies third touchdown on a run to the left. Bruce Stucki gave us our third extra point making it 21 to 0 at the half. The Cowboys from Kanab were doing their best, but they just couldnt match the Flyers talent. With Dixie threatening to score in the second quarter, a Kanab player was overheard to say, "Come on, lets stop' these (censored) guys, for (censored) sakes. In the opening moments of the second half Lloyd Booth intercepted a short pass from Kanab and ran 15 yards for our fourth touchdown. The extra point failed and the third quarter ended with Dixie leading 27 to 0. Coach Brooks gave everyone a chance to play during the second half in an attempt to hold the score down, but the Flyers scored again in the fourth quarter on a run by Bruce Stucki. That was the game, as Kanab threatened but could not score. The box score of the game was as follows: 7-- 0. Dixie Flyers Taste Defeat 10-ya- ! This year 32 players have been showing up for drill and they really show a good team spirit. Coach Wilson has good men, two deep in every position. So far this year, the Rebels have played three games, two of which were league games with Ricks and Carbon.
