To get the real lowdown on the matter of parking, I got in touch with the committee chairman, Dennis Holland, with my question. Oh, up on the Black Hill is mine, came his quick reply. Then after my explanation, .Well, we are short on parking space, but the big problem is better use of what space we have. Because of our improper parking on the hotel lot (north of the Science building) we were told it would have to be cut to 25 cars or none at all. So we agreed to the 25 what else could we do? Nothing, of course. They own the ground. We have made preparation for the street south of the Administration building to be graded to keep it dry. This should help. We tried to get the property south and east of the Annex building and found it to be leased as a playground. Next year, however, it will be available. Let me say also that the students should be encouraged to use the space south and west of the Administration building more. Recently named as of the Dixie College Faculty association was Donald C. Cameron, dean of students at the school and director of the division of vice-preside- nt biological sciences. Mr. Cameron fills the vacancy created by the appointment of Mr. T. Wendell Bayles to fill the presidency of the organization. Elected last year to the vice- presidency, Mr. Bayles was advanced to the office of president when Mr. Earl B. Cottam president-elect for the coming year, who is on leave of absence during this year vacated the office. The Dixie College Faculty association functions in conjunction with the Washington County Teachers association. In addition to supporting the county association, the organization protects the interests and welfare of college members. The association officers will continue to represent the college faculty in Utah Education association activities. Another rearrangement on the Dixie campus which is a direct result of the increased enrollment is the complete reorganization of equipment in the biology department. The relief map of Zion national park was transferred from the west classroom to a vertical position on the east classroom wall to allow seating space for biology students. |
