The week will be packed full of timeless DSU traditions including the whitewashing of the "D" on Black Hill and True Trailblazer, a night at the fountain, to close out the week. Some unique events happening include a doughnut eating event in attempts to break the world record for most people consecutively eating doughnuts. "I think it's a really fun and unique event to hold on campus," Zimmerman said. "I also am excited for the pageant because I have seen how hard each contestant is working, and I'm excited to see it all pay off." Anilee Bundy, assistant director of student involvement and leadership, said each event is important because the string of weeklong events is what makes experiup a true ence. She said although it is difficult for her to select a favorite event, some of them are notewor and attending the Carnival afterward. Zimmerman said student government began the plan: ning process for about eight weeks prior, with some events taking much more time to plan. has "Because so many events, we start planning some of them months in advance," Zimmerman said. "For example, I know the pageant was started last semester." Zimmerman said traditions on campus are important for students to feel connected with each other, the community and the alumni that came before them. She said these traditions offer an opportunity for students to fully invest in the place where they're earning their thy. "Not to mention the Great Race is one of the longest standing traditions on our campus, so that's pretty cool." Students, faculty and members of the St. George community were given a view of Alex Boyé's newest music video, and Dixie State University officials announced a new initiative last Thursday. Before presenting the music video, President Richard "Bill' Williams announced a partnership between DSU's Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Jordon Sharp, chief marketing and communication officer, and Williams spoke about DSU's goal of "active learning, active life," and the video represents the DSU lifestyle because of the collaboration between the University Marketing and Communication department, DSU Films and a large number of DSU students. "It makes me proud to be here at and Teallach Partners in creating the Dixie Commercialization Fund. According to their web-sitTeallach Partners is an investment and consulting firm that helps organizations meet goals and achieve successful results. The fund is intended to support innovators with the capital and guidance they need to promote their goods and services. The Innovation Plaza will be forming a class of various modules to teach students the different aspects of creating and launching a business. The video depicts an international student arriving at DSU from Nigeria, who is then taken on a magical journey by a circus ringmaster portrayed by Boyé and experiences the numerous departments and experiences both DSU and St. George have to offer. "That young girl who sang, she was really good; I really liked her," said Spencer Whitehead, a junior exercise science major from St. George. The video received a standing ovation from all in attendance who were inspired and impressed by the video and the effort it took to make it happen. "It made me very emotional," said DSU alumna Jessica Jensen Orvin from Salt Lake City. "It's amazing how our community and the students at Dixie can come together to make something so amazing." As of Monday evening, Boyé's version of "A Million Dreams" featuring DSU received almost 101,500 views and more than 6,500 likes. University of California, Riverside Chancellor Kim Wilcox, while serving a Michigan State University provost in 2010, allowed a dean accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women to continue in his post, The Detroit News reported. William Strampel, then dean of MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, was arrested this week on charges of harassing, propositioning, sexually assaulting and soliciting pornographic videos of female students. The arrest came as part of a broader probe into MSU's handling of complaints against former sports doctor Larry Nassar, whom Strampel supervised. Nassar was sentenced in January to up to 175 years in prison after more than 150 girls and young women some of them Olympic testified he gymnasts sexually assaulted them under the guise of medical treatment over two decades.
