Good Roads Day Friday, October 27 Ocean to Ocean Highway Redlands Dixie New York The boys of the Dixie Normal College agree to load all the teams that, the citizens of St. George, Washington, and Santa Clara will furnish. They surely did it. Go and see the results. In addition to the school closing, every business house in St. George followed our example. Every loyal citizen, who could, turned out to help put Dixie on the map. What, does Good Roads Day mean? It means a holiday for the girls of the school, a work day for the boys, the establishing of a link in the great Ocean to Ocean Highway, less difficulty in travel, more tourists and travel through Dixie, more capital, and the development of. our country. It means a benefit to all. Good Roads Day will from now on be a red letter day for Dixie. It is not a day we talk about doing something, but a day which we actually do something. Let Friday, October 27th, of each year be designated as Good Roads Day and every loyal citizen and student put his shoulder to the wheel, and push. Let other such progressive movements as. this take place and Dixie will begin to grow. Let us do all in our power to bring the Arrowhead route through Dixie. We have begun it, let us keep it up. We have an ideal climate, a country rich in natures scenery, a country through which tourists like to come, and a country through which the Arrowhead Trails Association will bring an auto route if we will only help. We have demonstrated that, by the turnout of two men and about hundred fifty-si- x fifty teams, on October 27th which resulted in the construction of several miles of good road. The new load cuts out the old route up through the Santa Clara Greek bottom and shortens the distance from the entrance of the creek to the Indian Reservation by one half. No more trouble in the old ereek. Come on with your automobiles, you will have no trouble there! The Arrowhead officials had a hard time coming into Dixie down the Clara Creek. They never will haw1 it again. They witnessed the construction of a new route, by the citizens and students of Dixie and they leave w ith the assurance that we will do our part in bringing through this country of opportunities the Arrowhead Route which will be a part, of the great Transcontinental Highway. College Spirit As the autumn leaves are falling, in this our Dixie clime, And the students hearts are yearning, for this college1 life sublime; 'There is a glorious something that quickens every heart; While toiling in the college for lifes most precious part. Our school so fast was growing and adding to her fame, 'That, we had to think and ponder and finally change her name; t From a high school large to a College grand, 'To further education in our Dixie land. Our principal is busy striving his duty to perform; While all the rest of our firm faculty are aiding in reform. 'The College are all busy as buzzing, humming bees; Hut yet with ease are leading in all school activities, We aim to keep our college growing, climbing upward all the time; Until our fame is scattered, like the winds, thru every clime. George,. Miles. Do You Know Him There was a very handsome boy, With a very deep base voice, Of all the pretty maidens He'could have his choice. Hut you see he didnt want to, He didnt care a mite, About foolingaround with girls Or staying up at night.. Although they were1 all crazy For him to take them home, Before hed satisfy their wants He would let them go alone. Ho know just how to talk to them Around about, the school He knew just when to act the saint, And when to act the fool. didnt go to dances, He didnt, quit, o know how To wind around in cutting He curves Or make a ragged bow. But then the1 girls sure like him Jle is so nice vou know, His h air is always smoothly brushed, His tie is tied just so. He always has his lessons Yet hes half made up of fun, He can pull a trick in no time And youd never know twas done. To take this well known genius Upon a. general plan Yu cant help but imagine That soon hell be a man. E. McK. |
