Show OBITUARY NOTES RATE KATE JOSEPHINE THOMAS OGDEN utah june jane 11 1897 the dewise demise of sister kate josephine thomas occurred may 31 1897 at this place after long jong and severe illness she was a native of springfield mass she was born september 12 1867 at a very early age she was vas left an orphan her father died when in his sixth year and her mother died when twenty four years of age when four years old sister thomas rhomas was fatherless lat herless Sab subsequently she was adopted into a family of a gentleman named john hay when she ehe was nine yearb old this family came to utah and settled in park city for some years afterward josephine attended the sisters school in salt lake city during her attendance there mrs judge R K williams williama visited this institution she made the acquaintance of the young pupil and became very much attached to her and obtained permission for her to come to ogden while here she became acquainted with sister caroliner ballantyne in whose family she lived tor for some time there she heard the gospel preached and in 1881 when sixteen years od she was baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints of which she ever afterwards remained a faithful member in 1887 she was married to elder moroni H thomas of this city on march 3 1895 elder thomas was called on a mission to california in september hollowing iol lol lowing sister thomas and her children joined 1 her husband in the missionary field she remained there until august 20 1896 when in consequence of her serious il illness elder thomas was released from hi bis a mission and returned home with his family all that human aid could do was done to resto restore reSister sister thomas to health but it was unavailing she continued to get worse and on the date above named surrounded by her family and friends friend w she passed peacefully away she h had been a great sufferer but she was uncomplaining she bore her affliction with much fortitude and was willing to die A husband three children two boys and one girl all quite small besides a large circle of mends friends mourn her early demise the funeral services were held in the second ward meeting house june let 1897 addresses were delivered by elder george W larkin bishop robert and elder F D richards richard all of whom spoke of the integrity fidelity and pure ii lire e of the deceased an immense bort cortege ge f followed I 1 10 wed the remains remain 4 to the cemetery where they now repose in peace Jo JOSEPH HALL LUCINDA HAYMORE DIED dicia in sonora county mexico of child birth may 23 1897 sister lucinda lacinda haymore wife of F D Hay haymore moro and daughter of benjamin and ann J taylor born in surry county north carolina july 17 1851 deceased came to in 1869 where she resided until october 1896 when she with her husband lefi for mexico to secure a home she leaves a husband an aped aged mother and nine children to mourn her loss three of odthe the children reside in payson two of them being married sister haymore was a kind and loving mother and an affectionate wife she leaves many relatives and ft fi tends who deeply mourn her loss she has been faithful and true elizabeth brown wallace wife of james wallace sr died at winter quarters june alb after afier several weeks illness which commenced with pleurisy i funeral services were held in the meeting house sunday at 2 after which the remains were taken to the cofield te ce aeme meery ery deceased was born at kirk galloway shire scotland may alth 1840 was baptized march 1880 by elder john L ilythe hythe and confirmed by elder james houston emigrated to utah in 1883 the family has lived in winter quarters about twelve years ROBERT B WILLIAMS died at the residence of his daughter in salt lake oily city on saturday may 22 1897 of old age and general debility robert B williams funeral services cervices eer vices were held in the eighth ward meeting house on monday may 24 consoling remarks were made by elders john nicholson cholson Nl thomas Crae cracroft and samuel and by bishop sheets the deceased was born in study norfolk england june ath 1819 he received the gospel in hull yorkshire england and was baptized by simion pickering in 1856 was appointed president of the branch and afterward president ident of the hull conference he labored in the latter position until 1868 when he be was released to get means to emigrate to utah he accomplished that in 1869 and arrived in salt sal t lake city in october of that year jear although he has seen many disappointments and reverses yet his integrity lor for the gospel has been as firm as aa a rock his motto was seek first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and although he has not accumulated this worlds goods he has laid up treasures in heaven and has left a record that is worthy of emulation he died as he had lived a faithful latter day saint cox COM MARY MABY CROOK KNELL ST GEORGE june 8 1897 died at pinto washing on county utah IT lab june 4 1897 mary crook knoll knell wife of bishop robert knell sister knoll knell was born in plymouth Ply month devonshire england july 23 1822 was baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day dav saints october 12 1841 gathered to nauvoo illinois and suffered the i lions ions to which the saints were subjected there went to burlington in the same state stale where she remained until 1852 when she gathered with the saints she lived at kaysville Kays ville davis county until 1862 when the family were called to dixie and settled in pinto pinio where she continued to live until her death sister knell was the mother of nine children two sons and seven daughters one son and three daughters preceded her to the spirit world while her his husband band one son and four daughters together with grandchildren and great grandchildren remain to 10 mourn her loss lose Alth although pugh sister knell left her home and kindred to cast her lot with the people of god in the days of her youth and passed through trials and hardships that were severe she never was known to murmur against the providen cies of the lord nor complain of her lot and although she was humble in her deportment her life was a consistent one and her example worthy of emulation her constant testimony to her children and the saints was that the he gospel was true and that the more she contemplated the principles the greater joy she had in the glorious plan which god had revealed lor for the redemption of his children sister bister knell died as she had lived full of faith in the gospel and in a full fall hope of a glorious resurrection the funeral services were held on sunday june ath in the pinto meeting house where consoling remarks were made by the following brethren in the order named elders david H cannon joseph eldridge dridge Ei and amos G thornton thorn ton the remains were followed to their last resting place by everybody in the settlement and many from the adjoining settlements it ic has not been my privilege to witness a funeral where greater honor was shown to the departed than that of sis er knell to express it in a word she was one of the lords noble women and the people with whom she was acquainted quain ted realized and appreciated it she has been a great sufferer lor for the last seven years but during all that time she wai never known to murmur nor complain thus another great and good woman has been called away may the lord comfort her bereaved family and cause them to feel that thai he boeth all things well COM |
