jesus christ ot of utter latter day saints in burke county N C was waa baptized b by J sider diz dix in the above named state and an county in the year IM 1865 or 66 he be was waa 75 years 1 I month and 16 days old wax was always a firm and consistent believer in the doctrines doctrine of the Lati Latt erday saints and died a firm believer in the same he was the father of nine children even are living all grown his one and only brother H P lindsay is ia living in salt lake city he wm wad perfectly rational during all his three we weeks fee sickness and was waa submissive to his bis masters will and met his fate without a murmur murta tir he had bad been a resident of texas for 19 years SAM T LINDSAY BINAH SINA H sister sinah eldridge was bore bora september and died september 27 1895 after a severe sickness ric kness ot of six months duration which she bore with great patience having faith in a glorious glori ors resurrection as taught by the gospel revealed by joseph smith the latter latier day prophet sister sinah was the daughter of stephen and amanda chipman clipman who received the ibe gospel goepel in 1833 1838 in leeds canada west in the ibe year 1838 they emigrated to missouri Mis houri to join the body of the lal lai ter day saints with their family six in number when traveling to far west went they were detained at detroit three weeks by an infuriated mob after which they went to far west where subjected to 10 the cruelties cruel ties of the oratH who attacked the saints sainta it at that place were expelled found a resting place piece lor for a short time lime at monrose iowa removed to council bluffs in july 1846 and this traveling was wa done with the aid ot of ox teams the deceased was the mother of six eb children ildren two boys and four the grove grave W J FRANC CROSBY BROWN BBOWN sister france francea crosby brown died at her home in nutrioso apache county arizona on october arz X 1895 sister brown was born in karmoth Yar moth novo nova scotia fio otia october 81 1817 her parents were joshua and hannah cause crosby Cro aby she was waa baptized a member of the he church ot of jesus christ of latter latier day saints december 10 1888 1838 in county new york and gathered with the saints of commerce Oom merce afterwards called nauvoo I 1 JUs 1119 june 6 1889 in company with her mo her three brothers john K obed and jesse W crosby and two sisters hannah crosby mumford and eliza C turrill her mother hannah cause crosby crosb was the first latter day saini who lied died at ai nauvoo and mother hunnington ning ton mother oi of aunt zina and brother william hunnington Hunning too was the second person one died in the evening and the other in the morning and their funeral services were hold held together and elder eider sidney rigdon did the preaching sister brown is the last ot of this crosby family except john K X crosby of bountiful davis county who to is over eighty years of age and they all died firm in the be faith ot of the gospel she was man merited led to lorenzo brown in nauvoo march 1844 the prophet joseph smith officiating by which marriage she had bad three sons and one daughter all oi 01 whom are still hying she has baa living three grand and great grandchildren she received her blessings in the nauvoo temple january 1846 suffered with her co religionists in that immortal exodus irom from nauvoo III and rew rea hed bed salt lake valley september 1848 and after a short abort residence in the old fort located in the severn h ward north nonh of the residence of bishop thomas jenkins she moved to st george washington county utah with her ausband and family in 1862 and may really be called a pioneer in the tet lement lament ot of nauvoo salt lake and st george brother and sister brown were called to labor as regular hands in the st george temple when it was opened in 1877 uy by pi est eat brigham young they moved to arizona in 1883 and located in sister brown held the position of jofs 8 ake secretary ot of relief societies in st george stake for several beveral years also ward president resident of relief cocle y in Nui suring during which time the sits ern huilt a nice hall the best in this stake of zion sister brown would have been 78 years vears old bad she lived till oct she had a paralytic stroke sep jtb 1895 by which she lost the use of her right side up to which time she attended to her duties so it may be said she died of old age as she had bad no disease and was sick only a few weeks she died in the presence of her husband two sons and her daughter and all wai wa 4 done that loving hands could do lor jor her she died firm in the faith ot of a glorious resurrection with the juit JOHN HORNSBY OGDEN utah oct 14 1895 elder john hornsby was waa born at london england october 17 1829 in 1806 he joined the church of jesus jeans christ vf of latter latier day saints shortly afterwards alter warda he went to liverpool and was ordained a priest in 1857 he emigrated to the united states he settled for some time at perth amboy county new jersey there he be followed his vocation that of ornamental clay work such as ornamental brick and fancy pottery work etc he built a factory and for some time carried on a flourishing business he finally sold out all his interest in the concern and in 1890 he visited utah and examined the country with a view to eb establishing lishing a factory here if location and olay clay for that purpose could be found after afier a stay of some time he returned to now new jersey and again settled there for several years year antho in the spring ot of 1893 1898 elder job pingree went on a missi n to 10 now new york new jersey and other states during bis bin travels gravels he became od ed with brother hornsby by whom he was received with the utmost kindness he was welcomed to his home and treated with great cordiality thenceforth his domicile was an open house lor for the missionaries mist fonaries when in that part of the country here brother hornsby and his generous genarc ais wife renewed their allegiance to the church of god and thenceforth took great delight in invest the laws ot of life and salvation and experienced much pleasure in administering to the missionaries while laboring amone them brother hornsby paid his hifa tithing faithfully and donated liberally to help the completion of the suit salt lake temple and sus sue aming the work of god generally in 1894 he be was ordained an elder eider by elder job pingree which office he honored and magnified during the remainder of his mortal life A number of his children had now no embraced the gospel in 1895 he be made up his bis mind to come to utah biah again to nod find ai and dd pu purchase a suitable location for business businessmen ben hen leloh fetch or send for his hii family end and locate per permanently me among the saints of god before starting for utah he be called his bia family to gether geiber his children and grandchildren and talked to them in a solemn manner on the he principles of the gospel 1 those who had not yet yei embraced it he urged to do so and those who were already members of the church he admonished moni shed to be faithful and true to the solemn obligations which they had bad sai aai fumed little liitle did he or his loved ones then wink think that was the last time in this life they would see eee him or hear his voice nevertheless it was so on the aih ot 01 august last he arr ved in ogden with hits bis eldest son SOD where he w was as greeted and made welcome at the home of elder john Pl pingree ingree here he was making arrange arrangements menta for a permanent home for his bis family his mind dwelt much upon the temple whose holy precincts he be expected to enter and receive the ordinances for himself and fam family ilyas as well as lor for their dead but these hopes were not realized on september aih he was paralyzed down his bis left side during his bia affliction he sail said he was visited by heavenly messengers who told him he would live but a few dalti and also alo told him to warn his bis family to be faithful fath ful to the gospel and to 10 warn his bis son who was waa then wilh him to obey it he suffered ered very severely but bui bore it patiently and wats was resigned to the will of the lord he never murmured during his bis affliction he lingered until september when his bis spirit passed peacefully away to the spirit world his lat last te stimon was in defense ot of the gospel which Q god has ha revealed for the salvation of the human family he was honest industrious true and faithful to every trust he had bad ten children five sons and five daughters and 80 grandchildren ten of the latter have hare embraced the gospel funeral bervi oes were held september Septem bet 15 at the residence ot of elder eider pingree by whom and bishop robert appropriate remarks were made on th subject of death and a glorious re a u tion
