Show OBITUARY NOTES BISHOP ROYAL J T CUTLER GLENDALE GI kane county sept 5 1894 it becomes our painful duty to obron chron icle the death of one of honorable citizens el our bishop royal J cutler which occurred at his hia residence august 3rd ard after a protracted illness of diabetes the deceased was born february I 1 1828 in the town of amboy oswego county new york where he resided until august 6 1840 then moved toila to illinois arriving there september and located in the city of nauvoo there he received the gospel gon ea and was baptized by b y elder john tack pack in 1841 was ordained to t the he priesthood in 1845 and organized in the seventh quorum of seventies may 25 1846 he be crossed the mississippi and started for california arriving at council bluffs july ath of the same am year where tm ha lived until unil may ma 8 3 1864 1851 at which time helas he was on a mission to the united states to preach the gospel traveling in company with elders isaac bullock david candland and francis brown preaching an aa opportunity afforded in liberty sullivan county N Y he met miss theda ann morton and was married to her march 25 1852 in april he returned to 0 o council bluffs with his wife and in june jane ane crossed the plains arriving in salt lake city october 4 1852 he settled in west went jordan remaining there eight years and while there acted acied as second counselor to bishop gardner he married margaret ross rosa december served in the forces against johnsons army and in 1860 removed to american fork canyon where he labored in the milling business until called to the muddy mission starting november going through the hardships a and trials incident to the settlement of T t that hat country in 1867 be was chosen to and filled the office of representative to the legislature of arizona the settlements of the muddy were abandoned and he and family moved to glendale march 1871 1871 on august he was chosen first counselor to bishop james ing until march 8 1879 when he was waa chosen and set apart by apostle erastas snow as bishop of the glendale ward in which capacity he labored until his death he was the father of 19 children and 54 64 grandchildren friends and acquaintances of the deceased met at the family residence sunday at 2 pm and formed in procession following the corpse to the meeting house a casket being carried by his sons as follows morton B harmon S royal james jr allen alien rt R edwin and ROM boss there were present of the authorities the kanab stake pre presidency edwin D woolley thomas thom Cham chamberlain berr in daniell daniel patriarch warren foote and stake clerk F L porter president jesse W crosby of the stake bishop H W esplin of orderville derville Or aul and bishop G D macdonald odonald Ma of graham ward besides a number of brethren and anaa sisters from the wards mentioned who had come code to pay their last respects to he departed the s speakers kern on the occasion were elders E ra D woolley thomas chamberlain daniel jesse W crosby james leithead and john S carpenter all testifying to the sterling integrity and honesty of purpose of our bishop and giving consoling remarks and advice to the family and friends assembled calculated to td give us hope and increase our faith in the principles of the gospel and stir us up to emulate the many virtues possessed by our worthy bishop the beautiful clean meeting house that he so faithfully labored and liberally gave of his means to erect and complete was wag well fill filled with relatives and friends who had met to pay their last respects and feeling as one of the gp speakers eakers remarked that though bis body sleeps ills his spirit still lives and fills an exalted station among the bright that minister salvation in the spirit world and ere long by the desus power ower of the redemption wrought out by jesus christ will come forth in the morning of the resurrection to rel reign an upon a renovated earth among earths best and enjoy the reward of his labors blessed are the dead who die in the lord respectfully JAMES W WATSON |
