Summit, at Patriots manhandled 2, . manhandled the Mt. Vernon Patriots to win easily, 92-34. 16-1- The game marked the second time this year that the Mustangs had scored oyer 90 points a contest. The other time was when Dugway tallied .up a seasonal high of 111 points to their opponent's meager 28, January 28, in a game against, this same team - Mt. Ver p.m. South Summit. Heres a breakdown on how Dugway did in their last three games of the regular season. Jays fall again notched Dugway their fourteenth victory against no losses, February 25. as they once again shot down the Jays of St. Joseph. This time by a score of 59-3Back on January 21 when the two teams met, the Mustangs destroyed them 65-49. 3, as John DeWitt and Steve Bruce led the charge with 16 and 15 points respectively. The Jays knew they had to stop those same two individuals, DeWitt and Bruce from scoring.. Maybe not to win but to make the score more respectable thisnime around. DeWitt proved to be an aggravater, once again, to the Jays hope of keeping the game close. He rifled in 7 baskets from the field and another 4 from the line. His total of 18 points that game was the team high. Even though the Jays were somewhat successful in suppressing Bruce's performance, he still scored .10 points. Two of his points came from the charity stripe. Going into this game, he was averaging almost 18 points a game, tops on the club. ; Helping take up the slack in Bruces scoring was Kary Gardner. He logged in 14 points worth, including 2 of 4 from the line. Stopping the powerful Dugway offense almost seemed to work, as the Jays were within distance in both striking the first and second quarters, 0 and .26-2free-thro- w 13-1- 0 respectively. But keeping the Mustangs in check for very long is extremely difficult, as the Jays . found out. Dugway ahead at the end of thepulled third quarter by a score of 38-2- 4 non. Mt. Vernon stayed fairly close, if you compare the previous time the two teams 1 met, trailing Dugway at the end of the first period and 7 at the halftime in23-1- 47-2- termission. ' However in the second half, the Mustangs scored at will, 45 points while Mt. Vernon managed a mere 5 points. Dugway's coach, George Bnice stated, vlt's difficult to tell your second stringers not to score and run the score up. Five players on the Mustangs squad scored in the teens, as John DeWitt was high point man with 19, hitting on 9 from the field and of 2 from the charity stripe. DeWitt is averaging 17.5 points per game. Steve Lundy almost had a. third of his seasonal output, had only 40 points prior to the game, came away with 17. He was 3 for 5 in 1 free-throw- s. Steve Bruce put in 6 of 9 baskets from the field, good enough for, 12 points. His output was slightly down from his seasonal average of 16.9 points per game, second best on the team.
