So what the heck. First of all, if the bad check is turned over to the Sheriffs Office, that person will be bumps, and forget about all. the smooth spots. That was recently brought out when Paul Carter had his illness. His Dad told me that one of Pauls "heroes was Ralph Sampson, the . prosecuted center for the University of Virginia. Paul wanted a picture, and wrote for one. Not only did he get his wish, but the picture was autographed personaly by Paul. Not a big deal for Sampson to do that, but the effect it pared to face some rather had on Paul cannot be measured. Incidentally, prior to his illness, young Paul played for Coach Carl Roberts on the DHS junior varsity team. Speaking of basketball, my . Coach George Bruce and all the members of the Dugway High School Mustangs. They, went 16 and 0 for the regular season. The only high school basketball team in the state to do so. It is great to go undefeated, but the most important aspect of this team is their . sportsmanship. I never once attended a game that I saw anything that smacked of poor sportsmanship, on or off the court These young men, and the young men and women who supported the team were true ladies and gentlemen. In this day when high schools are scheduling their sports activities during daytime hours because of problems, that occur after the games, it is heartening to see what we have. I want you to know, you Mustangs,, you you Cheerleaders, you band members, and you fans of Dugway, there are a lot of us who see what you have done, and really appreciate it You have set an example by which all schools could look up to. I think you are great. Now on to States .. Another subject. I recently attended a meeting of the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce. At the meeting, the Sheriff outlined a new proposal to the businessmen of Tooele to handle the prob. D-Ett- es, lem of bad check cashing. Ive done it . . . you see stiff music. And for those of you who do not, or would not write a bad check, take this into consideration. Every time someone does, and the businessman cannot collect, then the price of his goods or services goes up to compensate for the loss. He is not in business to give away merchandise. I am troubled. The Letter . to the Editor written by "Miss O. Cainea, has caused a number of calls to the PAO. Many of the callers have not only suggested, but insisted that such letters should not be printed. We have fought wars over that kind of an attitude. Right or wrong, a person is entitled to an opinion. If it differs from yours, set him or her straight. Some callers have called for the Editor of the Sampler to be hanged. That is similar to shooting a messenger that brings bad news. I find it hard to believe that anyone would want someone to have the right to his opinions just because he doesnt agree. Guaranteed, folks, we will printany letter that contains a signature, even though they ask to remain anonymous, and providing it does not attack a person either directly Dr by inference. Personally, even though I dont agree with what Miss O. Cainea says, I am glad he or she wrote it. The true colors have been flying. By the way, if you check. Miss O. Cainea is from the word Misocainea,' meaning the inordinate fear or hatred rf change. So be it. sub-mi- ts policy. hot review, and apthe copy which is prove ed in the Sampler and do not plan to start. The letter mentioned above was not approved by me or the Director of Materiel Test. While anyone may disa ' viously I was mistaken. I refer to the editorial in the Feb. 24, 1983 issue. The author or authors drew many generalities about Dugway and the people working at Dugway that I- - re- spect for these individuals and their accomplishments. To you Ms. Ocainea I say . . Ground. I support this editorial Letter to the editor whether he makes the check good or not. Depending on the severity of the offense, the bad check writer could get as much as a year in prison, and there are fines of $10,000. As for the Sampler, I would hope that they would run editorials, even controversial ones, that address issues of importance openly dis- and with candor and do not hide in the realm of fiction. I believe the Sampler owes all of the employees at Dugway an apology for publishing that editorial which really borders on "yellow journa- lism. be telling a lie. The problems of Dugway may not be those expressed in "Lack of Action Report at Waydug, Atuh, but the writer perceived a problem. One of thebiggest helps to the team was the unselfish work of our PAO, Dick Whitaker. Dick videotaped every game for the girls and, made them available for the girls to review to improve their play. He was very ably assisted by Jalene Holman as the video camerawoman and . Mary Parks as the still camerawoman. Another PAO staff member helped Dick film the last game. That was Tim Karas. We appreciated our asso- -' tiation with Doug and Sharon Moe, Larry and Nadena Hol- man, Steve and Jeannette Hagen, Shirley Fletcher, Ken and Dee Brauner and famiiy and Jerry and Mary Wilde. There were many others there, all of whom we couldn't list, but the team appreciated all of their fans. The State Tournament was a verypositive experience for ail concerned. We would nave liked to have taken first place, but that will have to wait until next year. In the meantime, feed your girls growing pills and think basketball! Proud parents and fans, Neil P. The tournament was scheduled at South Summit High School in Kamas. A fire troyed the gymnasium, causing about $240,000 damages. According to our information the roof of the building is laying on the gym floor. Within minutes word was received that Park City would be the site of the tournament. For those of you who were looking for coverage of the games on Channel 13, we may have trouble. The lighting in the gym at Park City is very poor, and we are not sure video pictures can be taken. By the time this paper hits the street, both you and I will know if the game can be covered on TV. One other basketball note. We have made arrangements with KTLE radio station in Tooele to carry their live broadcast of all the Dugway games in the state champion- ship tournament from the Marriott Center at BYU. No live pictures, just the audio. That tournament opens Wednesday, March 16. Maureen P. Wold The Sampler is published by the Transcript-Bulleti- by Dick Whitaker UUh.
