Buelna Breaking Cover, b Bill Gulley and Mary Ellen Reese, is a type of book. Gulley, who served as the Director of the.Whtie House Military Office under four presidents, serves up a mixed batch of latrine gossip, startling innuendoes, and, occasionally; some interesting facts. He is careful to paint himself in the most favorable light, presenting himself as a military lackey who could do nothing else then obey the sometimes capricious wishes of his erratic bosses and accomplished more than any other president in modem history. Underneath his boorishness lurked a man of genuine compassion and a ddeep understanding of the American psyche. career program also writes scathingly of the Secret Sendee; The truth is that the Secret Service is the worst, most jnfffficiei, badly run, highly political outfit in the United States Government. Pat Nixon receives tender and respectful treatment at the hands of Gulley, while Lynda Bird Johnson and Betty Ford emerge with their reputations a bit tarnished. Even actor George Hamilton receives short shift in this book; his denouncement at the hands of Lynda Bird is a gem of retaliation. Breaking Cover is another in an increasingly long books written by insiders and, of line of themselves, they are probably helpful in the long run in demystifying the bigwigs who are held in such thrall by the average citizen.
