Show The Deseret HHC undefeated, leads American League Hospital heads National League at HHC (16) vt Officen (1) Ted Kessel started off the game for HHC by reaching first after an error on the Officers' roving fielder. Jim Moesen-thi- n then tingled, moving Kessel to third. Paul Thompson stepped up to the plate and promptly belted his third home run of the short season over the left field fence to make the score with no further scoring in the first inning for HHC. Pitcher Bill Beise put the Officers down in order in the first HHC added five more runs in the second on a single by Walt Ebner, a two-ru- n homer by pitcher Beise, and singles by Moesenthin, Thompson, and Ron Meyer. Four errors aided HHC to gain those five tallys to run the score to The Officers were again unable to score as was HHC in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third the Officers came up with their first and only run of the game on a home run by Fritz Faulkner. The score at that time was 1 with HHC in the lead and they were never headed by the Officers with Moesenthin and Thompson getting home runs that helped bring the final score to 16-- 1 in favor of HHC. 4 Met Team (14) vs Chem Tech (16) A thrilling nine-- inning game saw Chem Tech come from behind in the bottom of the ninth to pull the game from defeat. It was the classic situation for Gardell Jensen of Chem Tech in the bottom of the ninth, the second extra inning, two men out, two men on, and the team down by one run. The Met Team had come up with a run in the top of the Now ninth to go ..ahead it was Chem Tech's turn and Jensen's in particular. On the Wednesday preceding his operation his friends, neighbors, and fellow employees rallied to his support by donating their blood at the hospital. The highly successful blood drive was organized and coordinated by Mr. Edward A. Dal ton. Chief of the Supply Management Branch. All in all, 27 people appeared at the hospital to give their blood. Seven friends and relatives of Mr. Hansen drove in from his home town of Nephi. Four employees from Dugway drove in by car. And the rest were flown in two shuttles by a UH-- 1 helicopter from Michael Army Airfield. OF THE 27 volunteers, 22 were selected to donate their blood. But, the real happy ending to this story is that Mr. Hansen's surgery was successful. By the Monday following his operation, he was able to phone Dugway from the hospital and express his appreciation to those who rallied to his aid. the last batter to fly out to ond end the game. 8-- 7. r. u.
