Show Tourneys, meets end YA summer program The DESERET SAMPLER, Fri., August 27, 1971 Swimming Tilt! Dugway Youth Activities summer program came to an cml this past week as meets ami tournaments were held in swimming golf, tennis, Ixiwling and archerv. Tlie swimming meet held last Saturday, attracted well oxer one hundred contestants as preliminaries were held in the morning and the finals were Saturday evening. In the 7 age group Laurie Bishop and Pat Nieves were tlie gold medal winners for the girls while Richard Hawkins in the underwater swim and Owen Karickhuff in the freestyle were winners in the Ixivs events. KENDRA Karickhuff and Lisa Schrier were second and third liehiud Bishop in the free style for girls with Maureen Butler and Lori Bishop getting second and third place medals in the 5-- lenius Hie tennis tournament was held Wednesday evening with Jamexetta Karicklinff, Kandy Persons, Karen Lacy and Kevin Donnelly winning the gold medals in their age groujis. Jamexetta won tjie girls cham2 pionship in the age group by downing Veronica Lewis. Hose Atmore won third place. In the 2 Ixiys competition Persons downed John Shea for the title with Roliert Shea winning the hronxe medal for third place. Donnelly swept to the Ixiys 5 year old championship without the loss of a game as he downed C.reg Cieslak in the finals. Sidney Calloway won the bronze medal for his third place finish. Karen was tlie only girl entered in the 5 age group. . 10-1- underwater competition. Owen Karickhuff and Steve 'Bruce finished liehiud Hawkins ; In the underwater swim for Ixiys with Flux'd Keller getting the silver medal in the free style conielition and Hawkins the 10-1- 13-1- bronze. In the year old competition Karen Fowler collected two gold medals, winning lxith the underwater swim and the luck crawl. Pat Donnelly won lxith the freestyle and lwck crawl Modal Winners age competition in tlie swimming meet were Winning medals in the hoys Clyde Keller, Doug Van Buege, Paul Brown and Robert Shea. 11-1- 2 0 Tennis Chumps 13-1- The champions in the various age groups in the Youth Activities end of season tennis tournament were Karen Lacy, Jamezetta Karickhuff, Randy Persons, and Kevin ) Donncllv. Buriiara Young won the gold medal in the freestyle while Scott Van Rcuge won the underwater swim for Ixiys. und finished second in lxith the back crawl and free stvle. MICHELLE Keller and Brenda Ilascoin each garnered two medals in the girls races with Mi chelle getting a second in the free style and third in the underwater swim. Brenda was second in the underwater and third in the lwck crawl. Tlie other medal winners were lleiuile Reed, second in the lwck craw! and Carol Rctorico third in the free style. Howard Austin received the silver medal in the underwater swim with Greg Brown ticing (L-R- ) Donnelly for third. Greg also got a bronze medal with a third place finish in the free style. Brendon Van Benge xvas the third place finisher in the liack crawl. Jamezetta Karickhoff was the leading swimmer in the girls 2 year old group as she won the free style and finished second in lioth the liack crawl and underwater competition. Karen Brosius with a win in the liack crawl and second in the free style, and Penny Rasmussen winning the underwater swim ami placing third in the free style, each collected two medals, Karen Bingham, third in the underwater and Susan Ilascoin, third in the liack crawl were other medal winners in the class. 11-1- IN THE Ixiys competition 2 in the age group Doug Van Beuge collected two golds with wins in the free style and underwater and a silver in the liack crawl. Roliert Shea won the liack crawl and also finished second in the free style. Paul Brown was third in the liack crawl and he and Clyde Keller finished in a tie for second in the underwater swim. 11-1- vv A Junior Howling Victors 11-1- Winners in the Junior Ixiwling competition ' were tLR) Randy Persons, first; Sydney. Julie won silver medals in the breaststroke and free style and collected her gold medal by winning the underwater competition.
