Do you know who your heirs are? Who will receive any money due you from salary leave? Who will receive your life insurance? annual or One method for deciding these vital questioas is the designation of a lieneficiary on your emergency data form in your personnel file. However, even though it is a requirement, most personnel fail to keep this emergency data form up to date. But the lest way to assure that your heirs receive their inheritance, according to your desire, is through a properly executed will. Some factors to keep in mind when making a will are the "natural heirs of your liounty." A man making a will should at least mention his children and the children of a deceased child, especially if he marries after making his will. Where the will does not mention his children, or provide for them by settlement, they are called "pretermitted heirs". What is "mention" in a will may lie a difficult question for a court to decide, espewill. cially in the case of a rock-botto- ng 'OR! Ok! If the testator gives these persons a nominal amount, even one dollar, or intentionally disinherits them, as a rule they will have no claim to the estate. A will need not necessarily leave property to a child, though to do so may prevent lawsuits. Some persons draft their own wills. These "holographic" wills are often contested Iwcause a homemade will often is deficient in complying with laws regarding the mention of children. In one case the testator failed to mention a child, hut said that "anyone who may contest this will" would receive one dollar. Too general and vague, the court held. The will did not mention children or spouse, directly or indirectly, or show intent to disinherit them. Only when there is no other means available should you write your own will, but it is better to write your own than to die intestate. So, if you plan on drawing a will, which should lie a must for everyone whether married or not, see your legal officer. Don't cause problems for your heirs. Make Money, money everywhere, but not a cent for me! This common cry is heard throughout the year but becomes especially frequent during February, March, and April of each year. It seems that this is the time that always places an extra burden upon every person's financial situation. Budgets stretch further, bank accounts hit sugar bowls and cookie jars get scraped, and children's piggy banks get robbed and broken. WHAT CAUSES this annual strain on the pocket-book- ? The pressure primarily results from a barrage of annual money collectors. Uncle Sam is perhaps the most notorious as he finds it necessary to collect those yearly secrets and reflect the family forms that reveal tell-tal- e skeletons of everyone's financial closet. Then, as if the Federal Income Tax is not sufficient, numerous states likewise join the tax club with the State Income Tax assessments. The family automobile also manages to drive into the money picvure every year about this time. As soon as February rolls around, the trusty family machine gets a minor face-liftijob as new license plates or stickers are added to its familiar exterior. The auto gains further for recognition when the first payment notices roll in the annual insurance premiums. As if these items aren't enough to cause one thousand Excedrin headaches, what about all of those Christmas gifts that were purchased on the deferred payment plan? Isn't it almost time for all of those bills to come rolling in? It's funny how something that seemed like such a brilliant idea then, can turn into something so disastrous now. This advancement in air travel seemed very remarkable just 3fi years ago. But today we are not too amazed to read that experimental aircraft are flying more than 4.KK) miles per hour. 1 Control your clacker! by K. SOLOMON DAVIS, Safety Officer Ever hear of the fastest clacker in the West? That's the new children's toy composed of 12 inches of string and two resin lulls. It delights children with its syncopated clacking upon pendulated contact. On its down stroke, a quick upward jerk of the wrist results in a snappy clacking which continues until the rhythm is broken. Clackers appear to lie a fun toy! In reality it has proven to lie dangerous as the sling shot used by David who slew Goliath. The most common injuries from clackers is a bruised wrist, forearm or knuckles. Other extraordinary accidents related to clackers are: a. Black eyes, received from an uncontrolled clacker, li. A broken toe from a clacker that fell from a table top, or c. Lacerated forearm received while reaching through the broken window which a clacker was accidentally thrown. Do you own a clacker? For your enjoyment, use it safely. For the safety of others, allow yourself operational space with a safe quantity distance. Keep your clacker under control at all times. 5 I I |
