Show the time, late Saturday, until the "big switch was thrown on Tuesday many never went home. They were put up in motels in Tooele, and driven to the site. Remember it all started with a snowfall early in December, and the snow cover remained until just a week or so ago. For those of you who haven't been around these parts, long, I tell you that normally snow falls during the winter months, but melts in days, and most of the of muck. Through all of the snow, busted roads, downed elec- winter months are spent trical service and winter without snow. Last year we played golf during the Christmas holiday. We were camping by now. Then came the trouble with the sewer lines. We were asked to conserve on the use of water in order to keep from really lousing up the system. Then came the fog. Oh, yes, the fog. Remember, you had to keep the windshield wipers going it was so thick? Everyone talked about what was going to happen when all the snow melted. Well the first indication came when a couple of hundred feet of road disappeared near Clover, so did a couple of transmissions, oil pans and tires. When the same thing happened in Skull Valley some people started to ask about the condition of Lookout Pass. Now we lose our electrical : service when several were off by sheared poles shifting ice. in Stockton Lake. Just some observations on that. Those of you who did not make the muddy trip to the west side of Stockton Lake just cant imagine what conditions those employees of Utah Power and Light worked, and worked. From weather came the bright light of the high school basketball team, and their state championship. We would really be remiss without thanking all of those guys, from Coach Bruce, Coach Roberts and each of the players who represented Dugway so well throughout the season, the regionals and the state championships. Never was there a word or an action by any of those 'fine young men that would reflect anything but the best. I was so proud to have been associated with these people, from the starters, to. those who carried on the unheralded job of waiting on the bench to be called in. As time goes by and all of the awards come in, we will all realize that Dugway High School, and the community of Dugway, has been made a great deal richer for their efforts.. Thanks Coach Bruce and Coach Roberts for your dedication and thanks team for taking our mind off a miserable winter. Because of you the winter of 4 wont go down in our memories as the year of the blackout, or the big snow, it will be the year we Won the state 83-8- - . Department of the Army has finally recognized officially what married soldiers have known for over 200 years . . . our families are our most valuable assets. In announcing the Year of the Army Family, Secretary Marsh and General Wickham pointed to the many different family units we belong to, such as the Dugway Family, military and civilians living working and playing together . . . the TECOM family of in- . stallations, the DARCOM family of commands and the Army family of everyone. Perhaps the most critical of these families is the one that waits at home, or follows us from one point on the Letter to the editor: The past weekend should be a tribute to all the people that helped keep us warm, informed and safe.
