The first points of the con- test were scored by ?c v ;V vv Dug-way- s John DeWitt, with a layup. From then on, Dugway would never lose control of the lead. Kary Gardner increased the lead to 0 by gunning in a St. Joseph finally got on the scoreboard with 2 minutes .and 15 seconds gone on the dock. The score was 3-- 3-- 1. Then the Mustangs exploded for three baskets to the Jays zippo. St. Joseph tried passing to open up the slot, but failed, so they had to resort to long shots from from the outside points. Unfortun- ately, for them, that ploy was also highly unsuccessful. Halfway through, the free-thro- w. se- cond quarter, the Jays startl- ed executing their plays with superb procession. Not only did they outscore Dugbut way in this quarter, now were in back the they game. But in the second half, the Mustangs offense, seldom stifled for very long, got in 9-- 7, gear and tallied up 43 points. By racking up that many points, the Mustangs were guaranteed of .the vic- - tory. Especially when yoif'' consider, the Jays could only account for 43 points the whole game, a credit to the hard pressing Dugway defense. High man for the Mus- tangs was John DeWitt who had 16 points. He hit on all of his points from the field and is averaging 15.4 points per game (ppg).
