And people have to clean up their rooms, eat breakfast and get on the Ditto, bus. (Editor's note: With the departure of CPT James Aiken as I1IIC Company Commander, CPT Ed Fisher hs has been given his first command of troops. Below is an interview conducted by SP5 C. W. Beaman in which CPT Fisher discusses, the pertinent issues facing his command.) We could have had PT at 4:30 p.m., too. But you have to take into consideration tne four-da- y work week, which is being suggested, and what the hours would be. By the time we did FT and had supper, it would be getting pretty late. Sampler: When did you come into the Army? CPT Fisher: Well, I took four years of ROTC training at Idaho State University and then was sent to Fort Sill in 1974. Sampler! How will sectionalized FT work? CPT Fisher: It will be up to the sections on how they want to do it. They can set up a particular time period every day or do it during the slack periods with their work. Before I made this decision I went through all the regulations concerning PT and this is the way they recommend doing PT for staff and specialist personnel. Samplen Has anyone else in your family been in the Armed Services? CPT Fisher: Yes, my father was in World War II. . Samplert Did he suggest you come into the Army? CPT Fisher: As a child I never recall it being discussed. He wasn't a career soldier, he was just in the war and then he got out.-It really wasn't until 1 was a senior in high school that 1 became interested in ROTC. As I was going through college annuals trying to decide what university I should attend, I became interested in the' photographs and articles written about ROTC. When 1 wrote to the diversities I askedthem for military science brochures and decided to give the CPT Edward Fisher military a try. . Samplen Have you ever had a command before? CPT Fisher: No, this is the first command I ever had. This is it. Cant you teU from the white office? Sampler: What were your first thoughts when, they tdd you you were going to be IIHC Company. Commander? CPT Fisher: I dont recall any kind of reaction whatsoever because I was expecting it. About two months after CPT Aiken took command he began drumming up business for me.During the 18 months he was here he would come talk to me about once a week and ask if I was ready to take over command, Actually, by a process of elimination I figured I would be the most likely candidate. Then one day. while I was talking to COL Bay, he said, Oh, by the . way. .... Post raises fund for McCurdy family Sampler! If this particular program starts to fail, what will happen then? CPT Fisher: Well, those people who fail the quarterly PT test will go to remedial or organized PT here at the company. If it turns out that an extremely largenumber of people are failing, then well take a, look at a couple of options. First, well find out why the sections arent doing their PT. . .there could be sorr.3 problems with getting it started. The other option is to go back to the old way of doing it. But it will be whatever the section wants to make of it. They could turn it into a real good program out bum about starting a visitation policy. But I fully an- or let it go to pot. Theyre going to be the ones who tidpate violations of the policy because it is (1) new dedde whether it works or not. and (2) people are going to see what they can get Sampler: Why hasn't anybody utilized the PT away with. field adjacent to the MP station? CPT Fisher: That project started before my time Samplen What would be your reason to discon-tinu- e and I only have bits and pieces as to why the PT field visitation rights? CPT Fisher: That would have to be handled on a went in. It does seem like bad timing, though- - Recently, case by case basis. But lets take Aberdeen Proving the Army has announced that it is going to come out Ground as an example. They had some problems with personnel control with a new PT test which includes only situps. as seen by the two unreported rapes so they suspend- - pushups and the two mile run thus eliminating the ed their policy until they reworked their personnel need for that type of special equipment. Again, it depends on the situation. There are no blanket decisions for something like this. But I want everyone to know that if problems develop, I will not hesitate to temporarily suspend visitation privi- leges until the problems can be resolved. Sampler: When you were the Surety Officer, what was your opinion of IIHC procedures as an outsider looking in? CPT Fisher: Im the kind of guy where if I dont have any business in an area I stay out of it and dont pay any attention to it. And thats what happened 'Sampler: When the recent mover of West Ware with the company. Earlier this month, the post softball team here accepted an inviation to some of Daves friends in an ef-- recovery. OUR student council adviser gested we have a bake sale and the committee agreed, explained school secretary Pauline Clayton. We sent letters home to the parents explaining what we were doing and asking for donations. So far, the kids have taken in $200. CPT Fisher: I don't think that organized athletics are being thrown completely out the window. To be quite honest, I havent really sat down and thought about how we could do it. But Im sure we could come up with a system; maybe select teams and have it on a Friday afternoon in place of section PT and training.
