Friday, June 14, 1974 Dugway, Utah 84022 House Dugway Days, Open Set for June 20-2- 2 Dugways seventh annual Dugway Days Open House will be held June 20- - 22 with the public invited to attend activities located in and around the lost Gymnasium. One of the highlights of this years activities will be the Barton Flnlayson Carnival with rides and games for both young and old. The carnival begins Thurs., June 20. TIIE CARNIVAL will open at 4:00 on the 20th and run until 12 midnight, it will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12 midnight on the 21st, and from noon on Saturday the 22nd. Tickets will be 25 cents each or five for one dollar. Ceremonies Friday will Highly technical photographic equipment and military displays including copters and weapons, will be part of this years Dugway Days activities, ' included again this year will be a carnival with many rides and games. officially open Dugway Days with DPC Commander Colonel Rohert A. More than 40 separate items of military equipment will be on display, including weapons, vehicles, and helicopters, from the Air Force, Utah National Guard, and Dugway Proving Ground. CIVILIAN and military personnel at DPG who are not required to remain at worksites because of workload, security, safety, or other reasons, it will lie excused to participate in the Dugway Days activities on Friday afternoon. Employees should understand that this excused absence extends only to participating on post in the celebration of Dugway Day. Employees who are excused from their worksites, but leave post or go to their residences on post their will be charged with appro priate leave. The activities will be centered around the Post Gymnasium and following a double-headbetween the Dugway Post Softball team and the Tooele Sponsors at 7:00, there will be Dancing Under the Stars on the carnival grounds with music by Porter Rockwell ' All these activities are on the 21st. ALSO ON the 21st will be local entertainment at 1:00 and 8:00 with Larry Mullen- er dore. Jack LaMay, Katy Cheri See, and Josie riddle providing the entertainment. Throughout its six- - year history, Dugway Day Open House has sought to inform visitors from neighboring communities .of the militarys role in maintaining an effective defense posture, while at the same time providing an entertaining time for all'. Riddle Replaces Colanto Spanish Program Coordinator Named Josie Valdez Riddle has been appointed Spanish Speaking Program Coordinator, replacing Emelda Colanto who has transferred to Ft. Huachuca, N.M. Ms. Riddle was selected for this important duty because of her long association with the problems of the Spanish-speakin- g Americans and because of her personal commitment to help overcome these problenis. Working with people and for people is nothing new for her as she has been involved in many community and church functions which call upon her talents as a public relations girl. Her civic Awareness has involved her as a Candy Striper, a Red Cross worker and as a volunteer at a community center working with underprivileged Mexican children. in a community United She has also worked as Fund drive in her hometown of Houston. She has involved herself in local politics by working on a campaign committee candidate to a school for the election of a Spanish-speakin- g board position. She also worked on a campaign committee to elect the first woman member to the San Diego city council. Her church activities have involved her as a Sunday school teacher, youth choir director and as a camp counselor at the Latter Day Saints Girls Camp this summer. Her greatest love is in the dramatic arts. She studied drama On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States. Since that time, the nation symbolized by that flag has grown from thirteen small states crowded along the eastern coastline into a migfity nation spanning the continent. The thirteen stars in the first flag have grown to fifty, reflecting the growth, progress, and determination of a people who would not be stopped by mountains, rivers , hardship or suffering. Dedicated Americans have followed the Stars and Stripes througji many trials and tribulations to build and perserve this great nation. The Stars and Stripes is a symbol of thp freedom of democracy en- joyed by us all, bought with the blood and sweat of dedicated patriots througfiout our history. Fly the flag proudly this Armed Forces Day and on all appropriate occasions. ; 3 an On the inside . 1 . Shade retirement ceremony planned Retirement ceremonies for Colonel Robert A. Shade, Army Dugway Proving Ground commander, are scheduled for 4 p.m., June 28, across the street from Post Headquarters at Brantley Field. FOLLOWING AN awards ceremony. Colonel Shade will pass command of the installation over to Lieutenant Colonel Andrew J. Armstrong who is currently chief of the Plans and Studies Directorate. A retreat ceremony will conclude the afternoon ceremony. Music for the function will be provided by the Utah National Guard. Troops from various units on post will form an honor company for the occasion. Col. Shade, a Army veteran, has been commander of the Deseret Test Center and U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground since 1972. COL ARMQTRONG came to Dugway Proving Ground in December following assignments as Director of Instruction for the Army Chemical Center and School at Ft. McClellan, Ala, and as Chief of the CBR Technical Division of the Army Ordnance Center and School at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Josie and her husband Michael live at Dugway Proving Ground where both are employed. Josie will be joining shortly the Information Office staff after approximately one year with Civilian Personnel Division. June 28 1 : and speech in high school and was enrolled in the San Diego School of Arts for one year. She has written, produced and directed several short plays. Josie has been involved in many musical productions as well as plays. While in Houston, she sang with a group called Up With People which toured Texas and the surrounding states.
