John Powell Centennial. Utah, Wyoming, Wesley Arizona and Nevada all have a hand in the pie to be served to history buffs and other visitors during the next few months. Starting today a three-da- y symposium exploring geologic and historic aspects of Powell's journey is being held in Salt Lake City, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Section, Geological Society of America. University of Utah Department of History will sponsor its annual "Utah in the West" symposium, June 9 20 concentrating this year on the Powell mapping expedition. After classroom presentations, participants will travel to Southern Utah for a first hand view of tlie area explored by the Powell party. Steps include Cedar City. Lees Ferry, North Rim of Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. Lake Powell will be dedicated June 19. Symposium participants will attend.
