ZEALAND: At ' Chapel Of The Snows Aide Named In Northwest An investigator who received instruction about the Church in the frigid wastes of Antarctica was recently baptized in New Zealand. AG3 Joseph Gonzales Jr. was baptized while returning home to the United States after spending 12 montl s at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, with the U.S. Navys Operation Deepfreeze. Mr. Gonzales attended sacrament and priesthood meetings from March to October with RM1 James W. Wintch, AG? Terry L. Sager, BUC Leonard L. Zierlein and PN1 Robert W. Fuqua. All were part of the scientific program conducted at Lee G. Cantwell has been set apart as second counselor to Pres. Robert L. Back-ma- n of the Northwestern States Mission by Elder Richard L. Evans of the Council of flic Twelve. He succeeds Pres. K. Ellsworth Payne who was set apart as first counselor replacing Newel T. Call, who was called to be a b5shP-Pres- . Lee G. Cantwell Cantwell, a native of Smithfield, Utah, is a practicing dentist Li Portland. He served a mission in Hawaii before graduating from the Utah State University and the University of Oregon dental school. He and his wife, Karen, have four children. McMurdo. Hickory-Morganto- Missionaries have carried the Gospel to citizens of the southernmost city of the world in Ushuaia, Argentina, one airplane stop from Antarctica. FRESNO: Banquet Honors Award Winners Elders Ronald Thompson and Leonard Renick from the Argentine Mission flew across the Straits of Magellan to reach Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, in an ancient Honors and food were passed out to scores of young men who assembled at the Fresno Stake Aaronic Priesthood Banquet with their fathers and leaders in Fresno, DC-- 3. Newspapers and radio stations were contacted and invited to use The Spoken Word progiam. The library received two copies of the Book of Mormon. In Ushuaia the radio station director was pleased to play a record of the Tabernacle Choir. It was the first time the choir program had been broadcast in that part of the world. Elders Renick and Thompson also were given permission to address a congregation in the Pentecostal Evangelist Church in Ushuaia. Anti-Cigaret- te Law legislation in the House of Commons in Ottawa, Canada, was recommended by Health Minister John Munro. Mr. Munro backed efforts td force manufacturers to limit tar and nicotine content of cigarettes and ban cigarette advertising. Admitting he had difficulty overcoming the smoking habit, Mr. Munro advocated legislation to print warnings on cigarette packages of the dangers of heart, artery, lung cancer and other respiratory diseases. Collard, a graduating senior in education, won the title from 14 girls vying for the crown. Miss Mission. officers will provide academic and social activities for students attending the institute at Snow Junior College. pie REXBURG: Delta Phi Selects Dream Girl Delta Phis Dream Girl for the coming year at Rick9 College is Miss Donna Miyasaki of Sugar City, Idaho. Miss Miyasaki was selected from six contestants at the Delta Phis dance on the basis of personality, spirituality, poise, talent and cooking ability. Delta Phi, composed of returned missionaries, said goodbye to last years Dream Giii, Miss Bonnie Cheney of Boise. The new Dream Girl is a baton twu-lecheerleader, has demonstrated her cooking ability arid is a major in nursing. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mm Tommy Miyasaki. The new queen, an active Church mem-ber, came to CCH onMargaret Collarc an academic scholarship. She is the second English student to be Miss Na Hoa Pono in the past two years. Last years queen was beauShirleyanne Gunning, English-Frenc- h ty from Essex, England. 1 Margaret stars in dramatics. She is drama director of the CCH Ward of the Church where she has served as second counselor in the Relief Society presidency.
