Indian Basketball Tourney Draws 200 From 6 States PROVO Nearly 200 LDS Indian youths, from six slates, pary basketball tournament at ticipated recently in a Brigham Young University. tournament Champions of the second g were the boys team from the North Indian Mission Seminary in Rapid City, S.D., and the snappy girl s team from Gallup, N.M., high school seminary. There were 12 boys teams and five girls teams competing for honors. They had won their right to tournament play in regional competition. Four coaches are Indians. They accompanied teams from Rapid City, S.D., Stewart Indian School, Nev.; Richfield, Utah, and Uintah, Utah. The aim of the program is to provide something special for the Indian students, under the direction of the Indian Committee. Its for fun. You get to know a lot of kids and all the different tribes together, said Tony Watahomi-gi-gete of the Hualapi Tribe, Stewart School, Nev. We work to earn money to come. It is so much fun, said Ora Jody. The Indian students came with transistor radios, record players, make-u- p kits and purple ribbons in their hair. They were well dressed with latest styles, mixed with Indian beads. It was a great tournament, a lot of kids got to play. Even cheering sections helped with the enthusiasm. The BYU gym was a wonderful facility. The kids got to know each other and got along fine, said Myron Accuttoroop, student chairman.
