FAMILY HOME EVENING A Winter Picnic can be home evenings Ask the members of Wardmentfamily Park West Seventh Ward. Monu- Children and parents will probably be talking for months about the winter picnic family home evening they had In their ward cultural hall. It was sponsored by the ward family home evening Sunday School class. The teacher, Mrs. G. Blair Bradshaw, invited 40 families to bring their blankets, silverware, paper plates and enough of one dish to feed 20 people at the family night activity. More than 150 people came and spread out their blankets and had a picnic with everything but insects. Youngsters competed in relay races, folks tried their hand at driving gold spikes and families entered the float competition. Each family was given a shoe box, a family activity tlcat. From this they each built a float to show what their family liked to do together. One family built a miniature bowling lane which was judged the most creative, another family liked to water ski, so they made a fc.iat pulling a man on skis. Another family evidently likes to ride horses together. Their float was topped by a horse made with a soft drink can and a sign reading We like ponies. This is a terrific way to have a family home evening activity together, one fa ther said as he worked with the crepe paper on his family float. Even the bishopric got i.ito the act with a rendition of My Bucket's Got a Hole In It. Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Bradshaw called the evening a step forward in helping her class see the great value of having family activities together. Bishop Richard Hyland, who almost won the indoor golf tournament said the ward had a winter picnic last year with blankets and a dinner that his three and a half year old child still talks about.
