Palmer KVEIT TRACIIIIK in the Church is under Dolma obligation to teach the truth and nothing but the truththe word of the Lordthe gospel of Jesus Christ. . What about personal opinions? Good, provided they square With truth. A teacher in the Church betrays his trust who teaches anything at variance with truth. Know what you are talking about whenever and wherever you teich. Wisdom b, perhaps, as much In evidence in your silence when you do not know, as it is in your most eloquent demonstration of knowledge. It is more honerable to admit you do not know than to cut uncertainties and vicious doubts in the role of truth.. Recently a young woman rose in fast meeting to bear her testimony. When she had testified of the goodness of the Lord, she said, in effect, "On behalf of the young people, I plead with our leaders and our teachers to teach us the gospel of Jesus Christ. or in the philosoWe are not interested in your personal opinions phies of men, we want the truth." Here is your challenge, teachers. Can you, will you, measure up? Teaching robe Dectrine President Joseph 7. Smith warned against the teaching and preaching of false doctrines: Saints, the preaching of false doc"Among the Latter-da- y trines disguised as truths of the gospel, may be expected from people of two classes, and practically from these only; they are: "FirstThe hopeless ignorants, whose lack of intelligence is due to their indolence and sloth, who make but feeble effort, if indeed any at all, to better themselves by reading and study; those who are afflicted with a dread disease that may develop into an incurable malediz-lazines- s. ones, who read by "SecondThe proud and who intorprol by rules I their - the temp of their oVal conceit; own contriving; who have become a law unto themselves, and so pose as the mole judges of their own doings. More dangerously ignorant than the first. "Beware of the lazy and the proud; their infection in each case is contagious; better for them and for all when they are compelled to display the yellow flag of warning, that the clean and uninfected may be protected."Gospel Doctrine, p. 373. Jesus denounced the false teacher and commended the teacher of truth: 'Whomever therefore shall break ore of these least cornmandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, at in the sdonrotineven."matt. the same shall be called - ng 5 : 19. - a The Power The Prophet Jpseph Smith attributed his great power to the teaching of truth: "In relation to the power over the minds of mankind which I hold, I .would say. it is in consequence of the power of truth In the doctrines which I have been an instrument in the hands of God of presenting unto them, and not because of any compulsion on my part."Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith', Ix. 341. A Premise to Teachers late President Speaking of "The Dividends of Teaching," the to the teachers thought-provokipromise a Z. Grant made Heber of youth: "There is no dividend that any human being can draw from bonds or stocks, or anything in the wealth of the world, that compares with the knowledge in one's heart that he or she has been an instrument in the bands of God of shaping some life for good. And I can promise the righteous teachers of our youth that as the years Conte and go they will gather 'dividends of thanks and gratitude from the children whose lives they have been the instruments in the bands of God of shaping for good." 3.
