Burton, Walter Baring, chairman of the House public lands subcommittee, issued a joint protest against the grazing fee escalation designed to bring U.S. and private land costs into balance. The new federal fee schedule does not include private payments to obtain federal leases. Burton said that the Interior Department had agreed to make a new review of the fees, which were imposed by the Johnson Administration in January.
