Plans haye been made to do things on a large scale-an- d the work planned is progressing nicely. During , the past i week the board of county commissioners of Salt Lake. county adopted the "signs of the Utah State Automobile association for all roads in Salt Lake 'county. This sign will be official. The City of Salt Lake atnj the state high' way oommlwlon have already adopted these' signs. One hundred and sixteen of these signs have been ordered tot the city proper and should be in place within the next three weeks, ., County Work Begins. The AntomobtUe association will send Its of the ""through county commencing tomorrow and locate the signs needed in this county. This will require at least a weeks work. Then these signs will be order, ed but tt Is doubtful if they can be received, in Balt lake In time to put them in place before the winter snows set in. If not. they will be on hand and erected as soon as the weather permits next spring. Then the state highways will come next. " The lower cost of gasoline is "a question that interests every one - and this question can be settled without waiting - for weather conditions. The committee having this question in charge, B. F. Redman, Charles Tyng, H. It. MacMlllen and R. M. Cross, . for Utah cgnnot be r fleialtf uide L -- X have plans all made for a successful campaign to bring down the cost to the consumer and they believe they will win. It may result in the association shipping in gasoline and selling it direct, but the association does not wish to go into the gasoline business unless it has to. Broken Glass Campaign.-"'"- " A a result of the campaign against broken glass on the streets. Commissioner A. H. The completeness with which Americas five million automobile and motor truck owners met the request of the government to use their motors " I only for will emergencies on gasolineless V Sundays, go down In the history of .the great war as one of the most trlotlc movements participated In by civilians. From what I can ascertain, the police and government officials In the entire United States have very tew, If any, names of owners on their blacklists who Insisted on Ignoring the governments request And mind you, this was at a time of ths year when fan motoring was at Its height, and was the when - the- - great most inviting from ths motorists standpoint This was all ths more wonderful of the invaluable servicq which - the automobile was rendering, not only --the government but industrial America In speeding up to meet nation's increased demands. ' That Bevwlh Day. i' The seventh day of the week is the -- ths wner-has a perfwt day when Ttghtto- wmrtder tt his day from the to go out in the open away scenes of weekly strife, to let down, to recuperate and gain more strength and .energy and "pep" for the work ahead of him. Tet when the government found -- it necessary to shot off this means of rest and recreation because the supply of gasoline was getting low in proportion to the governments proeent and future requirements, there was no complaint on the part of the n4owner. comHo met the request fully pletely. realising that by so dolng. be was making it possible for the boys uvov there" to continue their victory- -' winning pace, in which the motor ear and motor truck was playing such an Important part, and which depended upon an unlimited and n wee-en' tag flow of gasoline. ... :Blue Sunday Past.- Gasolineless Sundays are over, at least for the time being. Oct. 20 was "the first Sunday in a month and" a half, when the owner could resume little trips to gain renewed health and vigor for ths coming week. The when question that entered my ofmind ss the I read of the elimination Sunday was, "what lesson, Tif any, did they teach the owner "Would he make up for the spell of poo-u- se of his car end so bring the - supply of available gasotini back toneethe point where It would be again essary to inaugurate tfe gaso Hue less Sunday T - An investigation among a number or ut-doors se - -o- -- d- iZ y 'iis gaso-linele- tor principal distributors as to their opinion baa convinced me that it has resulted in a more affect on the owner than the Immediate saving of tbs gasoline required by the government ' The Results. . la the first place. It has made owners realise that gasoline must not be wasted, and second through observing the governments request owners have had it brought home to them the many unnecessary uses they made of their cars in which gasoline was consumed. This in Itself will effect a great saving of gas in the future, but the greatest effect to my mind, is that it will teach the owner to use his car only for essential purposes, either for business or for trips that will give him the greatest amount of rest and renewed health. It is a known fact that during the recent gasollneless Sundays, owners spent mors time in their garages making adjustments and doing other little bits of service on their car which they knew should have been made a long time ago, but did nothavethe time nor inclination.' -Great Saving. j 7 Thia practice will effect a great saving from now on, not only tn the eonaumptlon of gasoline and oU, but In the time of mechanics tn service stations The automobile owner of today Is mors of a roechanio than ha was ths first gwaoUneleas Sunday. Hs be knows his car mors thoroughly! knows what it will do and what it will net de; and from now on, ha will ah rays have in mind, the necessity of saving every drop of gasoline wherever poHKjble. HI motor running when Idle will etrfke him as an absolute waste of gasoline; the shutting off the motor when going down hill win appeal to him Instantly; end when ntart-In- g out on tripe, he will unconsciously select the shortest routes and the best rpftdf All of which have been prompted by these Sundays when he had nothing slue to do but bang around the house and tinker with the car, y A -ROSIN FOR LEAKS. 7 If a crack develops In a pipe or tank, or even tn the radiator, and ne soldering outfit Is available, tt Is possible to effect a very satisfactory temporary repair by running melted rodn ever the hole to a' depth of about a quarter of an inch.
