C. V TERRIFIC) - STORM AT CITY. Special Business Notices. ! ar-ya- n, it is reported, that itf menced to thunder, and the vivid sident, fllo in the office on was flashes of lightning that passed in of the Treasury, solicitor the terwere succession rapid simply not be found last evencould but it rific. There was a party, at the opening of our new City Hall, in progress in the upper room at the time, and it was once contemplated to dismiss it for fear of an accident, but the presence of our beloved and much respected President, Lorenzo Snow, at once dispelled all anxiety on that score, and the nerves of the ladies were quieted, and all went 'merry as a marriage bell.' We dismissed at ten, aud when I reached home I learned that we wete pretty near having a catastrophe; the lightning had sttuck Brother Wilson's house at tho north gable, tearing off the weather boarding from the square, up to the cornice, entering at the chimney, passing through the flue into the inside, then ranging downwards and striking the mantel shelf at the east corner, and takiDg a small strip out of the plank supporting the shelf, clear to the floor, aud reducing it into shreds ns flue and almost as solt as straw. It then cut up some very queer auticfljpass-Inup and down, to and fro, from floor to ceiling, tearing email holes in tho wall paper in a great many places, and blackening the surface of the paper, as if a hot bur of iron bad been passed over it. The pictures cn the walls were all smudged and singed, all the gilt from the fancy cornice work ovei the window iuside was melted oil, and the curtains torn aud much damaged, and, strange to pay, no one was hurt partitulaily. Brother Wilson was sitting near the door in the kitchen und was rather prostrated, his head coming in contact with an inside door, which stunned him a little, but did not hurt him much. He informed me that he saw the flash, and that it was so near to him that hU face felt &s if it had been burned for two or three hours after the occurrence. Nearly hi? entire family were sitting iu the kitchen at the time, and pro videntially not one of them was harmed. "Judging from the appearance of things this morning they had s very miraculous aud narrow cs cape. It rained here all night and, together with the wind and rain that we had on last Friday uight, which was very heavy, I fear that a large quantity of both grain and hay has been spoiled." The house of the correspondent, by the shock produced by the striking the dwelling of Brother Wilson, was shaken from foundation to roof, breaking a couple of lights of glass, and very much frightening the inmates. g uucert--moniousl- Homicide at Fort Ephraira. From a gentleman recently from Fort Ephraim, Sanpete County, we learn that a young man named Larsen was killed at that place, on the afternoon of the 24th, by Peter Peterson, son of Bishop Peterson. The facts, as they have been narrated to us, are that young Bar sen and a few rowdies, of whom he appeared to be the leader, had fre quently threatened the life of the Bishop and some ethers. While the celebration proceedings were in progress, on Monday, some persons went to the house of Bishop Peterson and smashed the windows, also to the house of the magistrate of the town, whose name we think is Chmtenson, there breaking down an ornamental fence, also to the house of Peter Peterson, where they tore in strips a quantity of clothiDg that was hanging outside. Parley Peterson, a younger son ol the Bishop, meeting Larsen, and understanding that he was the leader or perpetrator of those depredation?, pulled ofl hi3 coat and squared oil at him in the attitude of boxing, when Larsen put his hand in his boot leg, as if in the act of drawing therefrom a knife or pistol. Peter, brother of Parley, believing that the life of his brother was in danger, it being understood that Larsen was generally armed, picked ap a piece of fenco pole, with which he struck him over the head, killing him instantly. At first it was thought that Larsen was only stunned by tho blow, and Peter Peterson himself picked him up and did what he could to restore him, but to no purpose, a prrject ing knot 3i the piece of wood hav ing penetrated through the &kull io the brain. When the truth burst upon Peter, who has a wife and four children, he was filled with grief. When the Bishop ap peared, on hearing what occurred, Peter said to him, "Father, it was I that struck him; I did not intend to kill him." Before the occurrence it is said that Larsen, meeting the magis trate before mentioned, on the street, dared him to have him jr rested, asserting that he was going to do as he pleased. BEES AND FOUL ER00D. ing. The late solicitor had three boxes sealed up, directed to Bluford Wilson, Springfield, III. It was reported to the President this morning that several telegrams in the whiskey cases were missing, and that Wilson had many copies. The Custer "Massacre." A. M. Mvsser, C. H. T?
