ASP PUUXJBllEK. kUUTOK ft'riday. s I Knv l I TAIl .- -. a ftV&akV-- TKIDtl the completion of the railroad ucriH the continent this city ha been visited by Individual and parties from v irions points, with a view to securing the trade of this region. Chicago par-l- u wUrly hat tta the advantage that she wuiiM derive from this business, au.l 1:m made earnest efforts to draw the trade to her market; and to a very extent she has been successful. It ha long been a matter of surprise that Sun Francisco, whose busluesis facili ties are so great, should have made no greater effort than she ha to secure th.it portion of the business which, from r KMitiou and advantages, she could Kitrol better than any other place. It m true there have been some Ban Fran merchants who have had their at- n'o t ntion directed to thl point and who have visited here; but the interest has not been a general one.and the trade has been suffered to languish. At the pres ent time, however, there seem to be an increased interest felt In this direction A large party of merchants from San Francisco I lu tho City. We havemet several of then, and they are determined, they inform us, that San Francisco xhall have her proper share of this bust ne.s that share which belongs to her; and they set nothing to prevent their necuring it. Ho far aa Imported and Home few other classes of goods are con 1 erned, we have never leen able to understand why San Francisco should not compete for this trade. Her merchants ran certainly give as long time, and the freight is less from that port than from any eastern port, and goods are a shorter time e vi mule. We are assured that thfy will give the best of proof that they can do better by this country on many articles than is pottsible for anybody ehse to do. Already, we are told, they have given satisfactory evidence of this to our merchants. As will be seen by the following namen, Han Francisco is pretty well represented. The gentlemen In town are: T. C. Merrill, Esq., of It. A. Swain & Co., importers of Uluswire and Crockery; U. lieed, Ki., of Macondray A Co., importers of Tea; M. 8.
