Show JULY 1, 1986 L, Earns Weber degree IlEfY One purple robe stood out among the red, white and blue at the June graduation at Clearfield Job Coips Center this year. Wearing the traditional color of Weber State College, James R. Martin crossed the stage to become the first degree recipient under the old Advanced centers Careers Training (ACT) Program. Martin, 19, from Colorado Springs, received his Associate Degree in applied science from Weber State on June 13. Exchange vows Betty Clayton and Gary Bingham were married April in the Salt Lake Temple. The couple was honored at a wedding breakfast hosted by the grooms parents, Gary R. and Ann Bingham of Kaysville. Parents of the bride, Ralph and Judy Clayton of North Salt Lake, hosted a reception at the Chandelier Reception Center in their honor. The bride wore a dress of satin and lace made by her grandmother, Gwen Clayton. It also featured an 1 th 1 eight foot train. The flower arrangement, made by her aunt, Jessica Perry, had pink roses and white carnations. Bridesmaids were Vicki B. wright, Annette Farley, Marie Dot-so- n and Andrea Birch. Attending the groom were Steve Jay, Max Moore and Guy Parker. Ushers were Paul Clayton and Kenneth Bingham. Barbie Clayton attended the guest book. The grooms mother made the wedding cake. The bride is a graduate of Woods Cross High and LDS Business JAMES R. MARTIN mid-198- MRS. GARY BINGHAM The groom graduated from Davis High and is attending pilot training classes where he plans to teach. The couple honeymooned in St. George and the Southern Parks and are now living in West Bountiful. Baham- The Salt Lake Temple was the setting on Tuesday, June 17 for the wedding of Rhonda Lynn Baham and Steven D. Petty. The new bride is the daughter of Floyd P. and Ruth Baham of Kaysville. Parents of the bridegroom are Donald M. and Lucile Petty of South Ogden. A reception honoring the newlyweds was held that evening in the Kaysville Tabernacle. Attending the bride as maid of honor was her sister, Lezli. Bridesmaids were Holly Allred, Nancy Ward, Tristen Larkins and Diane Young, sister of the groom. Best man duties were carried out by Paul Booth, with Jeff Baham, brother of the bride, as usher. The bride graduated from Davis High School and is attending Weber State College. The groom graduated from Bonneville High School. He served in the Japan Kobe Mission. He graduated from Weber State College with an asso- - Before coming to Job Corps J, as he likes to be called, had dropped out of high school for family reasons. Arriving at Clearfield in July, 1983, he began to make up for lost time. He quickly completed the centers General Educational Development (GED) program and applied the credits earned there to his high school ; transcript. 4 J received his In high school diploma, and entered Weber State College on Oct. 1 as part of the first contingency from Clearfield Job Corps Center under the centers Advanced Careers Training program. The students in this program live in a dormitory at Clearfield and are bussed to Weber State College in Ogden or Utah Technical College in Salt Lake City. Students who are accepted to the ACT program are given an additional year in Job Corps to pursue college studies related to their training at the center. The landmark Corpsman was selected as ACT Student of the Month in May. He also placed fourth in a regional martial arts tournament recently, a discipline he has enjoyed for several years. Martin also writes movie scripts and short stories as a hobby, and naturally likes to watch martial arts movies. Job Corps offers a lot of different opportunities, and a chance to get a good start in life, says "J. He plans on entering the Air Force now, and complete his bachelors degree, possibly in logistics. After that, Officer Training School and a career made possible by Job Corps and a lot of determination. MARLON BERRETT PLAYS the Prince, and Kayleen S. Day portrays Kathie in the citys production of The Student Prince, now running nightly through July 5 (except for the 4th) at Happy Hollow. Called to Pennsylvania Elder Scott David Moon, son of Leonard and Delores Moon, has been called to serve in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission. His farewell will be July 6 at the Compton Bench Chapel, 850 N. 300 W., Farmington. Duckworth and two granddaughters, Jaime Duckworth and Ann Jensen, have returned from a weeks vacation in Boise, Ida. where they vi- sited relatives and the Boise Temple. They also drove to the Flathead Lake area of Montana, Glacier National Park, and the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple, returning by way of Blackfoot, Ida. for a family reunion. The couple was honored at a reception at the home of the brides parents. Debi and Scott are graduates of Layton High. Debi servied a Japan Okinawa Mission and Scott served in the Missippi Jackson Mission. They will make their home in Clearfield. He was in the Weber State production of The Student Prince, and Mrs. Brough, the director, has said he has been the best advisor she has had, because of his past experience with this production. Rick has been in The Magic Flute with the University of Utah Opera Theatre. He has sung solo parts in The Messiah with the Ogden Community Theatre. He is studying voice at the University of Utah at the present time. This writer has heard his voice and knows hes fantastic. Mrs. Brough has said, Hes the finest tenor she has heard. The developmentally dis- abled students who competed were from all over Utah. They competed d and in the races, broad jump and softball standing throw. Interest in Special Olympics has grown tremendously in recent years, and meets are held in virtually every state, due in large part to the strong personal support of Eunice Shriver, who brought them national attention. International Special Olympics now include teams from several other countries as well as U.S. states, and meets are held twice yearly.
