Show DAVIS Page FEBRUARY 19, 1986 REFLEX-JOURNA- Area Births Kiwanis learns of fund raising The Layton Kiwanis Club, meeting at their regular Saturday breakfast meeting, heard Doug Nielsen, assistant director of Development, speak on fund raising for charities. IN 1975, the LDS church divested itself of all of it' hospitals. Intermountain Health Care was formed at that time. Primary Childrens Hospital is a part of the Intermountain Health Care System. In 1975, about 50 percent of the cost of running the health care system comes from donations. Now donations only cover about five percent of the cost. At Primary Childrens Hospital, the cost of covering charity patients last year was about $2.5 million. The doctors donate their time for caring for the children who are g patients. Mr. Nielsen expressed his appreciation for the non-payin- support provided by people in our area for the Primary Childrens Hospital. THIS YEAR the Childrens Hospital telethon will benefit over 125 hospitals, including Primary Childrens. The telethon was organized by the Osmond family, who are still active in the program. The Kiwanis Clubs in Utah are active in supporting the telethon program. Many clubs have fasted during one of their regular meetings and have donated the normal cost of the meal to the telethon. Formerly, Primary Childrens Hospital was primarily a convalescent center. Now, however, it is the primary pediatric hospital in the intermountain area, providing specialized techniques for acutely ill and injured children. The hospit February 2, 1986 and Antonia Lopez, Clearfield, boy Ralph al is on the cutting edge of life, saving techniques for children, especially newborns. Primary Childrens Hospital will soon break ground for a new hospital building west of University Hospital in Salt Lake City. The present Primary Childrens building no longer meets the earthquake code for accreditation.
