Van Sickle, Social Security Manager in Ogden said recently. SOCIAL Security credits are measured in units called Quarters of Coverage." Both wage earners and people earn these credits based on their total annual earnings. A wage earners earnings are generally covered from the first dollar earned during the year up to the maximum maximum that counts for Social Security, $37,800 for 1984. Teachers learned new teaching methods and techniques. They studied principals of VICA management. They also made a club scrapbook. Mr. Smedley has taught school for 28 years. He has been the buildings and trades teacher at Layton g High School for the past 1 1 years. LAYTON WAS probably the second school in the State of Utah to offer a buildings and trades class. This special instruction is open generally to Seniors although occa- sionally an especially talented junior might be accepted into the class. STUDENTS start at the beginning of the school year to build a home. Mr. Smedley makes up the house plans. The drafting department at the school does the drawings. Mr. Smedley makes corrections and then the students start to work on the building project. All phases of construction from digging the foundation hole to furnishing the interior and landscaping the exterior are covered during' the year-lon- g course. SOME SPECIAL construction projects like plumbing and brick laying are subcontracted out to students enrolled in other vocational programs within Davis District. There are 36 Layton High students enrolled in the buildings and trades class this year. They work either a morning or an afternoon shift. STUDENTS ARE usually required to have a beginning industrial arts class or its equivalent be- fore signing up for this advanced class. After the home is completed, it is sold by the school district for the appraised value. The money stays w ithin the school district. Hiaysvlllc Kcws Members of the Orchid Club and their partner-- , met on Tuesday evening at the home of Lynn and Shaunn Niederhauser for a seven course Chinese dinner prepared by Bruce Bitner and Tom Packer for the opening social of the club. Thirty guests attended. The dinner was in charge of club officers. Janice Hill, Linda Nance and JoAnn Johnson. The Kaysville-Layto- n Rotary Anns traveled to Salt Lake City on Thursday for their monthly luncheon meeting at the Printers Loft. President Marsha Ashby, the newly installed president was presented a corsage. Following the luncheon and brief business meeting. the group of 28 members traveled to the Kearns Mansion to meet the Governor's wife, Mrs. Norma Matheson and a tour of the Mansion. Mrs. Matheson was happy to see Mrs. Alice Bonnemort among the group. Mrs. Bonnemort taught Mrs. Matheson in school in Nephi. Members of the WeincI Camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers Mon- traveled to Salt Lake City on day to hold their meeting with Mrs. Melpha Koldewyn who is making her home at the Cottonwood Retirement Inn. Mrs. Koldewyn is a former Kaysville resident. Fifteen members attended. A special guest was Mrs. Zelma Breeze. Mrs. Morjorie Herndon was hostess to the Phillips Camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers at her home Monday afternoon. Mrs. Ruth Winward gave the lesson.
