Taylor received his Juris Doctorate and master of business administration degrees on April 20 during graduation exercises from Brigham Young University. MR. TAYLOR is a member of BYU law review where he served as executive editor of the law review management committee. He published an article on anti-trulaw in 1983. Mr. Taylor is the recent winner of The Founding Fathers Freedom Award, which was presented to him by Dallin Oaks at the BYU Law Schools Award Assembly on Wednesday, April 4. st J. Morgan Gains Post Serving as Utah State Firemans Auxiliary President for 1983-8- 4 is Judy Morgan of 1205 N. 2200 E., Layton. f i SHE WILL be conducting all auxiliary meetings at their state con-- x vention which will be held May 5 in St. George. She has also served as first vice and 2nd vice president and secretary of the state association. In the local Layton Firemen's Auxiliary she has held the offices of president, vice president, secretary and 3-- historian. SHE IS the wife of James A. Morgan who has been a Layton volunteer fireman for 19'2 years. HE WAS first place winner of this Distinguished Award for 1983-8- 4 annual contest, with his essay on the topic of The Proper Role of Government, sponsored by the Maud Berkin Peterson Endowment. Mr. Taylor received a cash award of $2,500 for his prize. The Endowment was established by Jack P. Peterson in memory of his mother to encourage constitutional studies at the J. Reuben Clark Law School. D. They went to Tokyo where they met Rika Irikura, an Exhange student at Davis High who stayed with the Schofields. Rika accompanied the Schofields and the Cooks on a tour of the main cities of Japan visiting all the special places of interest and historic places in each of the cities. They visited in Sendai and Moreoka where they visited with Elder Larry Kettenring who is from Kaysville serving an LDS mission. They visited at Yamanas-ki- , Japan with Rikas parents and family as well as all of Southern Japan. Before returning home they went to Hong Kong and spent four days and visited with Elder Doug Anderson. Rika sends her greetings to all her friends in this area. Dr. and Mrs. G. Gibbs Smith hosted an Easter breakfast at the Alta Club in Salt Lake City for their son and daughter and families on Sunday morning. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs Smith of Kaysville, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ownbey of Bountiful and their children. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Jorgenson entertained at a family birthday dinner on Thursday evening in honor of Mrs. Eva Chugg of Ogden at the Red Flame Restaurant in Bountiful. Pres, and Mrs. Eldean Holliday attended the funeral services of Judge Cornell McKay Jensen in Clearfield on Wednesday. Pres. Holliday and Judge Jensen grew up together and were very close friends over the years. Welcoming their third child and third son are Mr. and Mrs. James Parker. The 5 lb. 15 oz. lad arrived April 14 at the McKay-DeHospite e al in Ogden and is being named Benjamin Jacob. At home are brothers James Edward and Whitney Doolan. Roy Hatch is now convalescing at his home after returning from the Humana Davis North Hospital where he is confined after undergoing two major surgeries where he was seriously ill for several weeks. He is reported to be improving. Tim is a member of the Mormon Youth Symphony. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd A. Bishop attended the funeral services of Carl Meiners held at Burley, Ida. on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop both spoke at the funeral service. Mr. Meiners was a former resident of Kaysville. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Raymond received word from Wilmington, that their daughter-in-law- , Deon Raymond is seriously ill. Deon is the wife of the former Floyd Raymond of Fruit Heights. Elder Clark Bean who is serving an LDS Mission has ltaly-Mila- n re- turned home. He is the son of Attorney and Mrs. David Bean and a member of the Kaysville 20th LDS Ward. Noall F. Hyde is confined to the Humana Davis North Hospital in Layton where he is undergoing treatment. DRILL WINNERS Eight members of the Celebrity Gold Drill Team in Lay-todirected by formerly known as the Gold Diggers Reta Felt have won top honors in State and National Jr. Drill Competitions recently. The girls competed in their age divisions doing two minute drill routines against girls from all over the state. Angela Felt and Misty Robbins went on to also compete and win in the Nationals. Angela winning 4th Runnerup in Nationals, and Misty winning 2nd Runnerup in State and 3rd Runnerup in Nationals. In a separate state competition where the other six girls competed, four were awarded Superior Ratings, one was given an Excellent and one an Outstanding Rating. Tim won a rating with his string bass solo. Elder Davis Major returned home Friday, March 23 from serving his mission to the Missouri, St. Louis LDS Mission. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Major and a member of the Kaysville 2nd Ward. Neta Sandall of Frontier, Wyo. has been visiting with her mother-in-laMrs. JoAnn Sandall the past week. Saturday visitors of Mrs. Sarah Giles were Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Welty and children of North Salt Lake. Other guests over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Giles and family of Taylorsville. Mrs. Lawrence E. Welling flew' to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to be with her daughter and family. Major and Mrs. Keith Major to help with the arrival of a new granddaughter Kathryn Ann, born Feb. 25. There were many special events for the Major family in addition to the new' birth, Keith received his rank as Major in the service and also w as presented the Bronze Star for service in Grenada, plus the Meritorious Service Medal. This was a special honor for the Majors and for his and her parents as well. Mrs. Bluebell Schirner and son Edward of Vernal were recent visitors of Mrs. Sarah Giles. and is their fourth child. Central science students did very well at the Weber State re? gional science fair. Central received 19 prizes including a trip to the National Science Fair that was won by Mike Gedris. SEVENTH grade biological win- ners were Tami Reynolds, Matt Denning, Lee Hipwell. 7th grade physical science winners included Julie Ott and Catherine Losee. The earth science winner in the 7th grade was Lara Luce. The biological and science winners in the 8th grade was Wade Geary. Roger Weeks and Donnette Golightly won in the 8th grade physical science division. Three 9th graders won in the biological science division. They were Mike Gedris, Cheri Reynolds and Brad Wilson. Physical science 9th grade students who got top honors were Jenny Winegar and Michelle Barker. Becky Young, a 9th grader, got a prize in the earth science field. BRAD Wilson received a 3rd place botany award in high school competition. Cheir Reynolds received a second place in environmental science and Mike Gedris received a first place in microbiology. These awards were also in the high school division. On April 10, 14 Central Spanish students attended the Foreign Language Fair at BYU. They competed in the categories of skits, language bowl, show and tell, poems, impromptu conversation and humorous stories. THOSE attending the foreign language fair included Jon Talk, Mark Fallentine, Dustin Goodwin, Kelli Nelson, Michelle Hadley, Andrea Iverson, Kristi Clark, Dana Dean, Diane Lawrence, Linda Roberts, Kim Ford, Stephanie Tingey, Bob Weber and Eric Summerville. The 8th grade students and 9th grade group received superior ratings on their skit. The 8th graders placed 3rd in the language bowl. DUSTIN Goodwin received an excellent rating in the Show and Tell division. Diane Lawrence and Kristi Clark got excellent ratings in the impromptu conversation area. THE CENTRAL concert orchestra received a superior rating at the district orchestra festival that was held April 4 at Clearfield High School. I While others may be contemplating graduation, that big day came for 115 Head Start students at Layton's Hilltop School and Bountiful Elementary, last week. The four-yeolds participated in the federally-fundeproaimed at giving youngsters from gram economically disadvantaged homes a "head sart" on their education.
