Her education in the field of business qualified Mrs. Cowley to work in her father's General store, Adams and Sons, that was located on the southeast corner of Main Street and Gentile. After her marriage to Wallace W. Cowley. Alta worked in the Cowley Drug Store from 1919 on and off until the store closed in 1980. Mer-chanti- le MRS. COWLEY met her husband through association in church and school. He was about four years older than Alta. They were married in 1911. Mrs. Cowley recalls. The first Adams home was a little frame building located in front of the present spacious and im- pressive brick home where Mrs. ( owley resides. -- HEN MRS. Cowley was three oi lour years old, her father com- pleted the family home that has been a Layton landmark for so many years. Alta Cowley was the third girl and the fourth child in the Rufus Adams family. Her brothers and -- sisters were Delbert Adams, Spencer Adams, Melvin Adams, Jenness Adams, Mrs. Wilford (Chloe Adams) Wiggill and Mrs. K.G. (Ethel Adams) King. Delbert and Jenness died in infancy. , store. Mrs. Cowley has been very active throughout her life. She prides herself on the beautiful yard, garden and home she has maintained all these years. She still enjoys sitting on the porch and viewing her well-kep- t property. Mrs. Cowley is the mother of five sons. Stanford, deceased; William (Bill) Wallace of St. George; Dr. R. Adams, Baltimore, Md.; Kermit, deceased and Hal of Layton. Dr. R. Adams Cowley is a widely known heart surgeon and trauma treatment specialist. Mrs. Cowley has 12 grandchildren and accomplished by walking to the school that was located near the Layton Main 1 - Street store. Mrs. Cowley re- -' calls one of her first teachers was Mattie Barnes. Later, Mrs. Cowley went to the Layton Elementary School on West Gentile. After completing the basic edu-- : cation offered in Layton, Mrs. Cowley traveled to Salt Lake City to attend LDS College. She graduated in the field of business. To get to Salt Lake, Mrs. Cowley rode the "Dummy" railroad car. In those days the Oregon Short Line Railroad had a main line running along Layton's Main Street near the Adams home. Mrs. Cowley re-- ; members it was possible to travel either to Salt Lake or Ogden on the Short Line. e-room 7-- -- AT A VERY young age, Mrs. Cowley started taking piano lessons. Her teachers were Nora Thornley from Kaysville and Myrtle Jones of Layton. Mrs. .. Cow ley proved to be a good music student. She became proficient at i: playing the pump organ and the : piano. She shared the talent she j had for music with everyone for many years. In 1983 Alesha was crowned Miss Continental Beauty Queen for the state of Utah, which in August this year she will be representing Utah in the Miss Continental National Beauty Pageant to be held in Las Vegas, Nev. The pageant is in syndication to be televised in many states. ALESHA is a member of the Classics Jr. Drill Show team in old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Dominguez of Clinton was recently crowned Little Miss Drill Queen USA. The competition was held in Redondo Beach, Calif. Alesha competed with girls from many states including Hawaii. Alesha will be featured in a National Lets Cheer" Magazine in June. She is currently Jr. Miss Utah Drill Queen and Jr. Miss National Drill Queen. The piano students of Ramona Porter performed in a spring recital at her home May 23. THOSE performing were Lara Anne Avery, Raellen Perry, Melissa Maughan, Susan Webb, Ryan and Angela Stanton, Kristi and Steven Schow, Amber Elggren, Sarah Scheuller, Wendy White-side- s, Jessica Stevenson, Michael Rigby. Emily McCormick, Greg and Christina Hales, Neeley Bowen. Also David Evans, Melissa Arnell, Sarah and Megan Shaw, Michelle Porter, Joshua Cheney, J'mi Naegle, and Amy Enders.
