Show .1 REFLEX JOURNAL BULLETIN LEADER, OCTOBER 28, 1982 Clearfield Discusses Social Security By CLINT YVARDLOW Social Security benefits, the positive aspects of Proposition One, and an appointment to the planning commission were among the items discussed at this weeks Clearfield City Council Meeting. THE COUNCIL, in their regular Tuesday night meeting, heard a representative of the Social Security Department discuss the positive aspects of the city staying on stead of starting a city based retirement program, and also heard a discussion of Proposition One. The city filed a letter of intent earlier this year, desiring to widthdraw city employees from the Social Security program in favor of a d retirement program. Dick city-base- Social Security Assistant Director Manager, met with the city council to discuss the advantages of the city remaining on the Social Security roles. the Social Security program in MR. LISSEYELD explained they offer many advantages that could not be obtained through other retirment programs. Most retirement programs will not pick up workers who are not 25 years of age, he said. They also will not except the elderly, but Social Security begins w hen people are young, and will except elderly people into the retirement program, Mr. Lisseveld indicated. He also noted that young people follows workers from one job to the next, Mr. Lisseveld said. The Social Security program also has a survivor program which pays a pension to the widow or young children of a worker who dies early.
