If voted, the leeway would not increase the budget for this fiscal year. In calling for the increase in the mill levy, the board said that if they delay longer in funding needed building projects in the district, costs will become higher, Superintendent Bemell Wrigley said that, in averaging eleven homes which have recently sold throughout the county, one mill would cost a taxpayer approximately jij iji jij iji jij iji jij iji j:j ;j: ij iji j:j :j: : :j: ijj jij j; jij :j: purposes. THIS YEAR 62 percent of the books processed through the center were purchased by the library. Most years a larger share of the books are processed for the school district. Even if the bulk in cataloging for the library continues to increase, it still would not warrant maintaining all the personnel, Mr. Whitesides said. All processing personnel, who have been paid in the past by the school board, must now be transferred to the county payroll. Since all are currently covered by the state retirement system, that should not be difficult, Miss Layton said. The board agreed that employees would be allowed to carry over their sick leave benefits. FREE! The library now Wrigley Superintendent reminded the board that the district had purchased a lot behind the school district, but said the cost of constructing a building might be prohibitive. The school district hopes to save $75,000 in processing costs by going with the State Library Commission. THE LIBRARY board voted not to go with a similar processing system since the state does not use the sophisticated processing system needed to find books in the county libraries. Miss Layton had estimated earlier that additional steps necessary to incorporate the state processing system into the county cataloging system would cost about $23,000. Superintendent Wrigley told the board that, if the impact funding is reduced by Congress, the board in calling for a leeway vote could ask for a two mill leeway and receive the same amount as four mills would normally raise since the leeway is supported by the state. SHERYL ALLEN moved that the board raise the levy two mills for capital outlay j:j :j: SCHOOL BOARD members postponed the action on calling for a voted leeway election until later in the summer or early fall. If the voted leeway were approved by December, it would go into effect in July 1978, Superintendent Wrigley said. If the board calls for a voted leeway, he advised them "to allow two or three months to promote the election. The Utah State Legislature passed a bill during the last session to increase the state supported leeway funds from $4 to $13 per pupil for each of the first two mills levied by the local district. THE INCREASE will raise the capital outlay mill levy from 13. 5 to 15.5. The board voted the increased mill levy after Superintendent Wrigley said, The present 13. 5 levy takes care of the principal and interest, but does not leave much money for building. When the board asked for direction on the levy increase, Superintendent Wrigley suggested the board go for the two mill levy particularly if the loss of the impacted aid funds makes it necessary to ask for a voted leeway later in the year. iji jij jij mill levy of 41.41 $6.50. ijj j? i$ saying that when the assessment occurs again in three years, the board will have reduced the rate of local taxation. We are kicking ourselves if we say we dont need the increase. The board approved the levy increase to take care of building needs which they said were severe. The increase will allow building before further inflation costs eat up the money. The maintenance and operation levy will increase from 23.65 to 25.82 for next year, resulting in a total Davis School Board voted unanimously to increase the capital outlay levy by two mills during the 1977-7budgeting period to provide an additional $500,000 for build-ji- j ing projects in Davis schools.
