COOKIES ARE probably the best after school snack by a child. Good nutrition can be found in a cookie; in its raisins, oatmeal, applesauce, and nuts. They are a good source of energy. On a cool, fall day, there is nothing better than fresh, warm cookies from the oven to be enjoyed By all the family. JUMBO RAISIN COOKIES 2 cups raisins cups water. Vi 1 BOIL TOGETHER for 5 minutes. Dram. Reserve Vi cup liquid 1 1 cup shortening cup sugar 4 eggs teaspoon cinnamon teaspoon nutmeg V teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon vanilla 4 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon soda 1 cup nuts, chopped BEAT SHORTENING and sugar until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one. Add the raisins and raisin water. Mix flour with spices, and soda, and baking powder and add to creamed mixture. Stir well, and add nuts and vanilla. Drop by teaspoons on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes or .until light brown and done. 1 V RAISIN BARS FILLING: Vi cup sugar 1 cup water 1 tablespoon cornstarch 2 cups raisins COMBINE sugar and in a saucepan. Add and stir. Add raisins, and cook over medium heat until t ickened and clear. Add a little lemon juice. Cool. cornstarch water CRUMBLY MIXTURE: 1 square margarine Vi teaspoon soda 1 Vi cups quick cooking oatmeal 1 cup brown sugar 1 Vi cups sifted flour Vi teaspoon salt CREAM TOGETHER margarine and brown sugar. Sift flour, sofa, salt and stir into creamed mixture. Add rolled oats and tablespoon water. Mix together until crumbly. Pat half of the mixture into greased baking pan 9 inches by 15 inches.
