Show WEEKLY REFLEX-DAV- NEWS JOURNAL. MARCH 3. 1977 IS Pleasant Tidings For Davis Co. War Vets There are pleasant tidings from Washington for Davis Countys war veterans. SOME 1,690 of them will be sharing in a $403 million cash distribution that will be made in the months ahead. The money represents dividends that have been declared on GI insurance policies held by them. THE PAYOUT will limited be to World War veterans and to those who saw service in the Korean War CORINNE SAYLOR and will go only to those who have maintained their insurance policies in force. Vietnam veterans, who are covered under Veterans Life Insurance Group (VGLI), a term policy that does not pay dividends, will not participate. They get other compensating benefits. MOST OF the recipients are the 3.5 million World War II vets who hold National Service Life Insurance (NSLI). It is nearly $27 million more than in 1976. The dividends, it notes, represent a return to policy holders of funds that are in excess. This includes interest earned and savings realized because there were fewer deaths than were projected. THE 1,690 in Davis County who have maintained their policies in force will be getting a total of approximately $162,000. They represent only a fraction, 21 percent, of the 8,220 World War and Korean veterans in the local area. $22. The reduced rate is a feather in the cap of the Ford Administration. Holding down inflation is a must in holding down justified wage and price increases and in increasing the buying power of all Americans. MR. FORD, who stressed the fight on inflation while President, can take comfort in the 1976 result. It was a notable achievement during a year of slow, but definite, economic upturn.
