Main, Farmington, is planning a Seminar and Orientation Program on Tuesday, April 27. at 7 p.m. FEATURED SPEAKERS will be John Staley, Professor of Sociology at BYU; Mrs. Mary Ellen Staley, noted educator in developmental disabilities and Clinical Neurological Development; and Charles Burhns, Institute for Neurological Development in Provo; Seldon Owens, M.D., former Davis County Pediatrician who now serves as Medical Director for the Utah . A FILM by the National Association for Retarded Citizens, explaining the need for community rehabilitation centers for neurologically handicapped children, will also be shown during the evening. THESE CHILDREN have a variety of neurological dysfunctions, ranging from AUTO CUNIC 132 North First West, Kaysville, Utah Phone 376-20- 35 brain-injure- d J severe debilitation to reading and other learning disabilities. The stimulation-oriente- d therapy is applied by nearly one hundred volunteers from the community, who donate to three hours each week to help the children with their individual programs. i This total program, at the Center in Farmington is modeled after other successful Centers throughout the country, including those in Alabama, Massachusetts, Indiana, Ohio, Vermont, Texas, and California. APPLICATION HAS been to Davis funds, County for Title-Xaccording to the Perceptual Centers Director, Theresa Commissioner DelFatti. Smoot and other Stanley County officials have toured the Center and are reviewing the funding application at this time. Miss DelFatti, in behalf of the Perceptual Center, is also making applications for State funds and Federal grants, in order to expand the Centers made recently X present capacity, renovate the building (the old North Farmington LDS Ward House), and hire a complete professional staff to evaluate prospective students as well as make available more complete programs for each child and adult who enrolls. ORIENTATION THE program planned for April 27 will offer much in the way of education for those who are seeking help for retarded, or other brain-injure- neurologically dysfunctioning family members or friends. All of the programs available at the Perceptual Center will be discussed, and questions from the audience will be welcome. All of the volunteers at the Center are also invited to at- tend with their families, as there will be an awards ceremony for those who have donated twenty-fiv- e or more hours since the Center opened in late December, 1975. ALL SCHOOL officials, educators, and other interested persons in the community are urged to be present for either their own or their organizations enlightenment. Light refreshments will be served after the question and answer period. Everyone is invited to attend.
