CLARK President Davis County Bank plications flooding the Federal Communications Commission each month, it looks as if the Citizen's Band is to become going more popular than the wedding band. "CB, as Citizen's Band Radio is called, is a relatively inexpensive means of two-wa- y communication popular with truckers and motorists. And that's not even mentioning the thousands of just plain people who make use of it to exchange road information or monitor CB channels for distress calls. CB has 23 channels cleared for its exclusive use by the FCC. Two of them are to be used with special respect. They are channel 11, for calling and making contact, and channel 9, strictly for emergency use. The other 21 channels are for CB owners to use as they choose so long as the few FCC regulations arent forgotten. reThese include the licensing but test no required, quirement There's an application you will receive when you purchase your CB must be completed and mailed with $4.00 to the FCC. Temporarily, the FCC is allowing applicants to transmit on the air for 60 days. Normally, no use of the CB is allowed until the license has been received. Another regulation concerns call letters. grace period, During the temporary 1m 'girl CB transmissions with you must lettemporary call letters. These are to be used every time you transmit as verbal identification - a fact which a lot of licensed CB fans either don't know or choose to ignore. And that can mean trouble for you with the FCC, which does monitor CB communications. CB transmission isn't the most or the clearest signal on the air - not by far. Educated guesses place the range at from 3 to 10 miles on fair days. Radio interference is a common problem. Neither drawback seems to bother CB users, who have developed a language all their own. When one trucker reports that there's a "Smokey in the grass with a picture taker, eastbound on the Green the initiated know what he Stamp, means. Translation: There are low enforcement officers stationed beside the roadway with radar, eastbound on the Turnpike. And practically everyone has a "handle - a nickname suitable to the personality of the CB user. So don't be hear the "California to surprised Dreamer and the "White Knight conversing on the CB airwaves. Betty Ford's famous handle is "First Mama. To get on the CB airwaves yourself, you'll have to purchase a unit. Typically, unit starts at apa good proximately $150 to $160. Added costs come for the installation of the unit in your automobile, plus an antenna. Figure about $25 for installation, plus $30 for the antenna. And do make certain you buy from a dealer who is willing to back up the sale with service. You may also want a book on CB terminology. One of the most popular is The Official CB Slanguage Language Dictionary which sells for $2.95 and was written by Ms. Lanie "Sugar Britches Dills of Nashville, Tennessee honoring Robert Love also honored her new sister-in-lawith a bridal shower at her home earlier this month. w and Mrs. Briggs, last Lawrence R. lengthy visit at the home of Mrs. Norris mother, Mrs. Ann Waite, and also with other members of the Waite week-en- Mr. and Mrs. Duane Norris have returned to their home in Pheonix, Arizona, after a family, her brothers and sisters and their families.
