Yet, on leb. 2, Governor Williams, with his bank credit shut off end his treasury nnable to meet payrolls. . . appealed to industry for prepayment of taxes due April 15. . . "This should be an undeniable confirmation of the prediction that a government, atate or national, can go broke. However, we fear that it will take more then this warning to convince Federal bureaucrats they cant go on spending what we dont have." A report from the Utah Foundation, private nonprofit tax research organization, states that the average Utahn must work 111 days during the year to pay his Federal, state, and local taxes. April 22, the 112th day of the year, is the day the average taxpayer in Utah can begin to work for himself. Like thinking people throughout the nation, we believe there must be a halt to spending. Trouble is, we suspect, that everyone talks about it, but no one is willing to do anything about it. Everyone concerned with Government, local, state or federal, believes HIS is the important bureau and that all others should be able to cut down on spending. Mr. Average Citizen, too, continues to demand more of his government subsidy, security, recreation, highways, water projects all worthy to those, who want them, but adding to the cost of government. V hatever the reason, we believe this spending must stop before we the average Utahns, are working 885 days to pay our taxes and our Democracy, without the help of outside sources, will enter history as another fallen Rome.
