In the first place we must admit that there are advantages gained with the presence of large controlling industries. These are largely in the interests of economy and stability. However, they tend to make an unequal distribution of wealth and in some cases hinder the progress which is demanded by competition. So today we have alphabetic bureaus in Washington trying to keep the situation untangled. The administration, however, has tied these bureaus to industry by so many strings that they frequently get tangled together and cause no end of confusion. Washington is making noble efforts to meet the challenge of free enterprise versus big business, but the expense involved is immense and. aside from the costs of the war, is bankrupting the country. Some politicians recommend the removal of controls. Others say some type of socialism is the answer. These, however, have both been tried unsuccessfully by others and us and do not solve the problem. What we need is broader vision in a fearless leadership founded on the traditions established by Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln. Only then can we hope to surmount the obstacles confronting us today and only under such leadership can we hope to take our place in maintaining the peace and progress which this age and hour demands. ,ct rue whistles The most beautiful railroad cars ever built now In dcily service . . .
