Correction is hereby made rela-tvi- e to a recent article appearing in The Journal, in which error in statistical data was inadvertently made in connection with the Lay-to- n By REV. NORMAN G. FOLKERS Sugar Co. The article stated that 300 persons were employed at the factory Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church of Layton THE STORY OF TWO DAYS universities, labor unions, charity and cooperative devices, etc., and in that way beating the income tax that should net the government 38 on the profits of these enterprises. And the best part of all this fenagleing is that it is according to law. Here is a shining example. A ft.7,000 acre Mountain wheat ranch has been sold to a Charitable Trust in Omaha for $2,1)00, 000.00 Its earnings have been subject to a 38 tax but now will g0 tax free. The seller of this ranch will still manage the ranch at a very handsome income. The Char- itable Foundation Fund, a corpora-Layto- n tion, is capitalized at $10.00. A $10.00 corporation buys, control of a $2,000,000.00 ranch. Even some churches are mixed up in this practice of tax evasion. I am proud to say that the Mormon Church is not one of them. This is what Congressman Mason has to say about the Mormon Church. The Mormon Church engages in a great variety of commercial businesses. How it has ever, always set an exarqple which other churches might, but rarely do follow. It insists on paying its full share of taxes on prof-- 1 its from such business operations. Is it any wonder that men like Senator Byrd, James Byrnes, former Secretary of State, Senator Taft and many other of our thinking men are getting frightened at the spending trend that the government has taken in the past few years. Is it any wonder that men like Dr. George S. Benson and Harry Bullis are getting exercised over the fact that our precious heritage of freedom which has been handed down to us is being lost. Is it any wonder that a man like W. G. Volmer comes forth with the assertion that Freedom Needs during a campaign. This should have read, 300 people are employed during beet harvest. Instead of 7r00 tons of beets processed each day, the correction is made at 1,- LMM) tons per day. As to investment of the company, Sugar has a plant invest-- 1 ment of over a million dollars. The Ion Exchange process used by the company for extraction of sugar produces some of the best sugar obtainable. Reported in the article were Hi major sugar factories in the state, whereas there are only five. Also reported in the article was the fact that Utah is one of the largest sugar manufacturing states in the country. Utah is one of the smaller sugar producers. The age of the world in which we live is much disputed. The various pst.imnt.es run from some 00(H) to the hundreds of to our life span, esti-i- s most conservative the a mighty long time. The remarkable fact imaginable, however, is that the fate of every man ever to live was decided in just two short days. Two scenes, widely separated in time, leave their mark on each of us, whether we like it or not. The first act in this supreme drama of mankind takes us back to the very beginning of time itself. We see a Garden, lovely and fair, called into existence at the command of a timeless and al mighty Creator. And in the Gar den, the best of all created things, a man and a woman, alive with the life of God Himself. Here the Creator and the creature could live in constant and blissful compan ionship. And then it came that darkest of all days when man tried to raise himself to Gods dance instructions in Dalevel, and turned that Garden into visSquare county are going full swing a living hell.
