BARKER Clipper Today Correspondent - CLEARFIELD Every Tuesday and Thursday morning you will find Edith Kretzschmar at the Heritage Senior Center helping serve lunch. I have worked every day, when they needed me, Edith said. Most volunteers only work one day a week. This is not something new for Edith. She has volunteered at the center for 24 years. Edith has been here a lot longer than I have said Tracy Young, who coordinates volunteers for the center. This past year Edith donated the most hours of any volunteer at the Heritage Center. Everybody at the center knows Edith. Kretzschmar and other volunteers were recently honored at the volunteer banquet. Edith became involved with the Heritage Center shortly after it opened. Early in 1976, Edith's husband, J.C. read that they were offering oil painting classes there and began attending. In those days, you didn't have to call in your lunch reservation the day before, Edith said. J.C. used to call me and tell me what they were having for lunch, and Id come over and wed eat together. I soon found out that they needed people to help serve in the kitchen and get the Meals on Wheels ready to go out. The Kretzschmars were transferred to Clearfield from Davton, SARAH ENDRES and Ed Isler fill lunch sacks as part of the program at Heritage Senior Center in Clearfield. Ohio in 1952. J.C. worked for the air force, and later Edith did also, ls Edith is a widow now. and still lives in the same house. Her only-so- n Nov. . lives in Tennessee. I make a trip once a year to see him. and once a year I go to Kentucky to visit my brothers and sisters, Edith said. That's about all the traveling I do any more. Edith grew up in a large family with three, brothers and eight sisters. Edith likes to read, and goes out to eat by herself or with her friends. She is out somewhere every day, whether its at the mall or at church. I stay at home at night. she said. When asked why she volunteered. Edith said,I don't have a lot of things to do, and I'm not looking for any more. Edith is a big Jazz fan. I havent got into it too much yet this year," she said. In 1980, Thacker became the first city manager of Kaysville and has worked in that capacity since.
